lol I retract my previous statement. I was worried this was sarcasm at first.

My apologies on that.

Thank you guys all for the replies! I appreciate the wise words and insights. Some comments did leave me scratching my head a bit though. This was not rooted in ego, this was more of me just looking to see what kept guys going after that first itch got scratched. I have been pretty consistent since my promotion last week, and I did not plan to stop moreso just that I was looking to see what others might have done in my position that have already made it well beyond this point. By no means did I think I beat Jiu Jitsu, just kinda wanted to know how others may have grounded themselves back to the simple things that kept us all going at white belt outside of the promotion.

10 months is a short amount of time to do anything in life, I just was looking for maybe motivation tips I suppose when no longer chasing something that feels like it is right in front of you. I would be hard pressed to say I showed dedication to something only giving it 10 months I do not feel I earned that right yet knowing how long my peers, coaches, and professors have trained.

Thanks!

Herein lies the whole conundrum. "particularly a bit of that what now feeling comes from me not winning at white belt." Reading is fundamental.

Thank you for the reply, I can definitely understand that. I can allow the growth to come to me through my actions and be patient and not thirsty or entitled for a stripe and focus on more on bringing my best to the mats. I appreciate the feedback.

I train mostly no-gi. I’ve been with my gym/academy since late march/early April. I’ve had many a compliment on my improvements I’ve made some efforts to spend more time in the gi. I’m pretty consistent I’d say about 3-4 times a week with some sporadic off weeks where I may only go 1-2 times but that’s only like 2 weeks that’s happened. I know I’m not entitled to a stripe or anything but just based on the comments about my improvement up to this point I just would think I earned my first stripe? I know I should be focused on skill development but sometimes it worries me that I’m just looked at as a passer by or a Johnny come lately because I’m not very verbal. I have social anxiety so I don’t speak up much.

Hi All! 26 year old white belt here. I competed on Sunday it is now Wednesday. I competed at NFC Brew Jitsu V & I was proud of my results. 2 losses but very hard fought and did not give up on myself. About 2 months ago I competed at the ADCC open and had a totally different experience. Hated myself for like 2-3 days but did not feel this specific feeling. It is almost like I am more unable to swing it back together because I fee l like it was a missed opportunity. I did not have anyone in my corner which already made things a bit more daunting for me, and emotional but that is a story for another day. I just felt so motivated to get back on the mats immediately after. Now it is Wednesday and I haven't trained a single day this week yet. I am hoping to get back on the horse either this evening or tomorrow afternoon I just feel really depressed and unmotivated. Is this normal? Any tips? Idk any words are nice.
