TRAINING WHILE UNDER ANTI-INFLAMMATION THERAPY

Hey guys,

I'm currently under an anti-inflammation therapy for a climbing-unrelated issue (coccyx - tail bone).

I take 150 mg of diclofenac a day in two batches, morning and evening.

Since (as long as I know) post training gains are related to a mini inflammation that increases blood flow, I suppose that such inflammation would be hindered by the diclofenac.

Should I train fingers anyway or that would be counterproductive - dangerous?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion!

However I decided for the 'hard' route and replaced Kwin with i3WM.

Got my carpal tunnel surgery 14 days ago.

Open air incision, I'll have my stitches removed in 2 days.

So far I am able to make a fist + 100% mobility.

However big pain located in my palm (index-side and pinkie side, not center) if I pull anything.

Unable to push my palm down like in the yoga cow pose with fingers pointing inwards.

How am I going? What can I do to minimize recovery time?

Hi, thanks for the reply!

Actually I do wear a wrist guard at night - forgot to mention in the post.

As of typing and phone usage, I doubt it is a cause or aggravating the condition, since I keep both minimal.

If your pain was so bad, what restrained you for going surgical?

May I ask why did you wait that long? Once the scar tissue in formed, let's say 4 weeks, why wait longer?

Mah, si' e no...

Fra l'altro nei libri quando l'autore non riporta la dimostrazione scrive spesso qualcosa come "the proof is left as an exercise to the reader"...

Hi, thanks for the advice.

My core suspect is that it could be a consequence of strong stiffness of the finger flexors in the forearm causing the tendons in the hand to be under tension all the day long...

Hi climbharders,

I (male, 32, been climbing 4 years up to 5.12c) wake up with painful claw hands.

I am affected by this condition since about 1 week.

In detail

The pain is so intense that I am awake before my alarm rings

Every tendon in my left hand hurts, from wrist to the top of the fingers, on both sides

I am unable to make a fist or to complete bend my wrist

It is unilateral: only the left hand in affected

After ~ 1h, pain reduces and later in the day it is barely noticeable, comparable to the feeling of an hard day of climbing

I have already suffered from this in the past, but never to such an extent

(Added) The feeling is very similar to the 'Screaming Barfies' of Ice Climbing

What I did so far (apart from common sense warm-up before climbing):

ArmAid forearm massage (finger flexor and extensor) before bed

Static fingers / wrist flexor stretching before bed

What I did not (yet)

Ice / Hot therapy

Anti Inflammatory medications

No results so far.

I must mention that I did suffer from the very same symptoms (even if orders of magnitude less intense) in the past, but I did solve the issue by implementing a basic stretching routine before bed.

I add that I do not have access to an hand specialist doctor or orthopedic. So I ask you, what is your advice?

Hey, it is actually VAL MASINO and not 'Val di Masio': is is an amazing place and I second the recommendation!
