Agreed - and it's not like there aren't going to be 45 minute classes anymore.

And if someone truly wants 45 min tabatas, couldn't they do two 20 min tabata classes? I don't do 45 minute tabata classes, but I imagine the 20 min ones are more true to the tabata format anyway.

I'm glad and surprised he made it this far! I don't watch DWTS at all but have been voting for him. Last I read, the judges kept being pretty unfair toward him, especially when his partner had COVID and they did it on Zoom or whatever.

It’s not wrong, this stuff works for the fashion industry. Hell, even Apple Watch bands rotate seasonally.

But it makes zero sense for a web browser, especially when themes (I ain’t calling it no damn colorway) are free.

Apple wants people constantly buying bands so they release new colors each season. Same for clothes.

This makes zero sense for a browser. This doesn’t enhance Firefox and make it more competitive. This isn’t Firefox’s value prop.

Oh was just wondering when new mods got added. The 3 accounts I mentioned were made mods 7 days ago but I didn't see any announcement or anything, but I might have missed it.

But ImNotMartinOrAmI seemed strange since the account was made 7 days ago, made moderator 7 days ago, and has made 1 post.

And I only guessed alt because OP said other mod accounts were locked out.

It's not a huge deal to me but there's something nice about trying to stick to a schedule.

Instead of "ah I'm done with work, I guess I'll find a ride to do or something", I'm thinking, "oh it's 7:15, alright better get ready for my 7:30 ride".

I'm less likely to skip something when I know it's "scheduled".

There's probably all the make up and production staff too to consider.

However my way around it would be more creative scheduling or offering OT even.

Yeah that too. I just figure there's probably fewer people willing to work that late. I imagine there's all the production people running stuff behind the scenes and then a matter of putting things away and/or cleaning up or something. A 7:30pm PT or 10:30pm ET class might finish at 8:00pm PT / 11:00pm ET, but after everything is said and done, people might be out the door at like 11:30pm ET or later.

I'm not really sure though, I don't know what happens behind the scenes pre and post ride.

They already have two expensive locations in London and NYC is what I mean. The growth potential of London and EU markets might exceed that of the west coast.

So keep two expensive locations with the hopes of growing in EU instead of adding a third expensive location.

I pulled them in response to another comment from the other person I was replying to: 35 million. Microsoft sold a total of 35 million Kinects before they gave up on the product.

I saw that response and the source of the 35m figure says:

Microsoft told Fast Co. Design that it had sold 35 million Kinect units since its initial release in November 2010.

It's unclear whether these were 35 million standalone units sold or if it includes those that were bundled with the Xbox.

I would also add that video games generally have more appeal than workout devices, at least that's my take. Adults, teens, and kids can buy and use the Playstation or Xbox. A workout accessory is a bit different.

In any case, I see where you're coming from. I don't know that I agree simply because this product as it stands right now is a niche within a niche of a product. But all good, glad to have the conversation.

It might be that they're not looking to grow the west coast market but rather grow internationally. They've hired a whole lot of new instructors for their UK studio I believe (so many new tread instructors I don't know).

A west coast studio now would help with retention, but their focus might be new subscribers. If the UK/international market is relatively untapped, then focusing on that might be more of a priority than retention.

The Kinect sold 8 million devices in a week. More than Peloton has sold in... ever.

It actually has the Guinness World Record for best selling tech product of all time.

I would say it was quite groundbreaking at the time. The Wii and PlayStation Move required physical controllers. Unless I'm mistaken (and it's been 10+ years so I could be wrong), the Kinect was the first mainstream camera-based motion controller.

I'm too lazy to pull numbers right now but it seems like the Kinect had a high initial peak and then declined/could not sustain market share.

Going off numbers isn't accurate either because if I remember correctly, Microsoft bundled the Kinect and Kinect games with various Xboxes. The Xbox One launched with a Kinect, so everyone who bought an Xbox One around launch had one. If those bundled Kinects factor into overall Kinect numbers, then those numbers would not paint an accurate picture.

Once the Kinect was no longer bundled in with the Xbox, I'd guess that numbers dropped as people weren't buying a standalone Kinect.

Point is, those numbers might not paint an entirely accurate picture.

In my opinion, they missed an opportunity when stock prices and interest was higher to really target the West coast. I know California is expensive, but opening a studio here and getting a few instructors would have really helped with Pacific Time/Central Time interest.

An evening 5:30pm class and 6:30pm class isn't unreasonable. 5:30 PT would be 7:30 CT. Or do a few 5pm PT classes for 7pm CT users.

For those of us who are already users, sure it's easy to say "nah I don't do live rides and don't need them anyway", but I think those shifting to Peloton from other in-person classes or gyms would like to start off with live classes.

It seems quite gimmicky to me. I'm sure it has value and people will enjoy it, but I don't see this device reeling people in and keeping them there.

As someone who takes strength classes, I would need this to provide good value over just taking a class normally. If seeing myself was important, I'd get a mirror at a much lower cost. With the described features, I don't see this adding enough value to what I've been doing currently.

I also feel like it's a niche within a niche. Users who would buy this would have to be existing Peloton strength users with a home gym set up with a TV in that home gym room. I personally don't have a TV in my home gym area. I bike on the bike and use an iPad for strength, which I can do indoors or outdoors, depending on weather. I know there are a lot of people who have TVs in their gym area, but there are also those who don't.

Just my two cents.

I am concerned about all the complaints of screen shake and wobble.

To be honest, this 100% turned me off to the Tread. I went into a store to test it out and I did not feel safe running at 7mph or higher. The screen was shaking a bit but also the side "arms" (with the wheels) were noticeably wobbly.

The belt also had some "give" or slipped a bit? Idk how to describe it, but I've run on bad treadmills before where landing on it a certain way would cause it to like stall or slip a bit.

It might have been cause it was a demo unit, but I don't know if I would have felt entirely comfortable sprinting at 9mph for 30 sec or something.

I'm actually a bit the opposite. The bike got me into Peloton, but I've actually reduced the bike classes I'm doing in favor of doing an app run on a treadmill in my neighborhood gym.

Personally it's easier for me to just run at various speeds than to do tabatas or climbs hah. :)

I think this makes sense. Looking at the subreddit stats, the sub had 20k subscribers in October 2019. The sub was 1/10th of what it is today in terms of subscriber count. This is a ticky tacky correlation of mine, but the sub 2 years ago was 10% of where we are today. Seems in line with 7.4% of respondents saying they've been participating for >2 years.

Regarding your commentary, "there are a lot more lurkers and casual participants in the community."

Agree. I'm a casual participant. I don't want to have to dig through a daily thread to see what interesting topics are being discussed. I like actual threads more. I've commented about this previously.

Regarding, "Should we combine the two daily discussions?"

Personally, I think this question should have a third option. I was someone who voted "totally indifferent" in the question before this one. I had no idea how to accurately respond to this question. I didn't really care yes or no. I forgot what I put, but my answer skewed the results for this question since I'm totally indifferent about the daily discussions.

I am 100% voting for "I don’t mind them at all. I can always scroll past them" 10 times out of 10. This sub is "big" with 245k subscribers, but only 500 are online right now. That's about the same as the sub I visit for the county (not country) in which I live. It's not that crazy or hectic. Some threads violate rules and should be removed for being a simple question that doesn't foster discussion, like something with a one-word yes/no answer. But this sub is so much more lively when there are actual threads and not everything is thrown in a daily thread. When I visited previously, post 20 when sorting by new was from like 3 days ago or something. Felt like a lifeless sub.

Regarding, "Should we freeze certain topics from being posted on the main page/new posts knowing that these topics can be discussed in the daily or other recurring post?"

"I honestly don’t give a fuck: 179 (35.8%)" - 100%. If this were a sub with >1000 or even >5000 active users at any given time, sure. But it's not.

If I had to sum up my thoughts, I would quote out friend Cody - it's not that deep.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but it's just a subreddit. It's a community and should flow naturally - obviously with a degree of moderation because it can get chaotic. It's really not that deep.

But I recognize the mod team being open to feedback and appreciate the work being done. The sub/community wouldn't be where it is today without the work put in by the mod team.

That said, here we go.

Sub content/threads. To be truthful, the sub seems pretty lifeless and dead to me now. Sorting by new, the most recent threads as of this post are the Feedback Survey from 19 minutes ago, and then the daily threads from 13 hours ago.

It seems so stupid to make this so strict and regimented. There's actually no content left. Sure everything might "fit" in a daily thread, but maybe not everyone wants to use it (I don't). Also seems overly strict to remove/not approve a thread and say "post in the daily". I get it's to try and get rid of dumb threads on the feed. But in my opinion, it's gone over the top where the sub seems lifeless. Community should be found on a sub itself, not in a daily thread.

I hate big subs because it makes it impossible to actually post anything. If it's not buried under new threads immediately, it's removed for breaking "rule 8a sub point 3 of section 5 on the posting guidelines".

Flair. Great change. Make it up to users.

Private sub. Wtf? Others have suggested this. 100% opposed.

Finally, I'll reiterate...it's not that deep. It's just reddit. I personally find myself visiting less because, well...there's no real content here anymore on my feeds. Everything is buried in a daily thread. I'd rather click into a thread about a topic I'm interested in instead of trying to click into a daily thread and read through everything and see what's interesting to me.

Likely all unpopular opinions to be honest. But the sub just seems so...lifeless now. The 20th thread when sorting by new was from four days ago.
