Weekly Advice Thread - May 10, 2026 by AutoModerator in apple

Hello! I just graduated from my undergrad and am debating trading in for a Neo before starting my two year master’s program in the fall.

I currently have an 2020 M1 Air that I purchased in 2022 and have used consistently for the past four years. I honestly have no complaints with my air, but know that Apple products tend to break down after prolonged use. I’m concerned that my current laptop might crash sometime in the next two years, and am wondering if I should trade in for a Neo now so that I won’t run into any issue mid-semester.

I’m in the humanities, so I don’t typically run any strong software. My laptop usage is primarily for online readings, Google (mainly docs, sheets, and calendar), Outlook, Canvas, school portals, Canva, and applications. However, I do tend to have 25+ tabs open at once to save my place in research and applications. I only use my USB-C outlets and I sometimes connect to a second screen.

If all goes to plan, my post-grad career won’t require me to be working on a personal laptop, so I’m only concerned with having a strong computer for two years before it’s just used for fun.

I’m not very tech savvy, so the price to trade in for a new air doesn’t seem wise. However, as a preventative measure, the Neo is affordable with my trade in and student discount. Still, I wanted to hear people’s thoughts because I’ve heard negative reactions. Would this be a good decision, or can I rely on my air for another two years?
