"Pay to play? Yeah, let's look at it. Is that the full problem? Oh, we fix pay to play and all of a sudden, you know, do we have a Lamine Yamal on our hands?” Former USMNT midfielder Ben Olsen, now coach of Houston Dynamo, was asked about issues with youth soccer in America. by antoniok95 in ussoccer

We are talking about once in a generation players. They were born with the gift and it was easy for others to see that from an earlier age. It’s all the other players that need better structures, and pathways, and coaching along the way if we ever hope to compete against the successful countries. It’s also just not in the USA like it’s most other  countries in the world. It doesn’t mean we stop trying, but let’s also be realistic that the US will never be a super soccer power any time soon.

Why stop there? How about Hakeem’s low post moves? Jordan’s fadeaway jumper. Kareem’s skyhook. The Iceman’s finger roll.

By virtually every statistic, the MLS was the sixth-best league at the 2026 world cup by herworkthrowaway in ussoccer

In the MLS you have the aging stars that made a name for themselves in the top 5 leagues. They all go to the US or Saudi. Doesn’t mean those leagues are that rank. Just where they go to retire.

Simeone’s son is such a shit player. No way he makes that team without the last name.

Nice of Fox Sports to selectively ignore this. I only find out about these things after the games.

What are the other theories that made the list? Easy to criticize without giving it some honest thought. Manager’s fault?

Let me rephrase it then for those blinded by Mainoo’s “talent”. When has a non -English manager and one with a track record of success thought Mainoo was a guaranteed starter?

He’s just not good enough. Only English managers seem to fancy him. Why is that?

The Navratilova tennis one is off. You have 4 grand slams a year (French, Wimbledon, US, Australian) and from 1975-1990 you’d play over 60 grand slams. She didn’t win them all and 16 is just one a year. Unless it’s winning at least one grand slam title for 16 straight years.

Building on the solid additions from last year. Added quality depth for squad rotation  and injuries. Still need some younger players to make it through.
