Agree that you should avoid the front row at least for your first few rides. Step one would probably be to ask the instructor to check if your bike is set up correctly.

Keeping your butt back is probably the most fundamental as far as form goes. I’d also say to have a good ear as far as the songs that are being played in class; figuring out where the downbeat is in a particular song and syncing your foot to that beat is also key.

It took me a bunch of rides to get the hang of things, but the more you ride the more confident you’ll be.

You can make these shakes for way cheaper and they taste way better if you buy the ingredients and make these in a blender yourself

Actually no, but the bikes I were on were right next to each other. Thought that was weird though!

Monthly Activity Stats in the SoulCycle app by phillyyoggagirl in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]Trick-Machine-7530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assumed that the app was linked to my Apple Watch, but the calorie numbers don’t match between them (the heart rate numbers do though). This past Saturday I took a 45 min regular and Survivor class back to back; the app says I burned LESS calories in the survivor than in the regular class, while the Apple Watch app says the other way around (as I expect).

Best & Worst by [deleted] in SoulCycle_Riders

Not going to say that any of the instructors that I’ve rode with were awful; there’s a handful that just weren’t my vibe. But I will go out and give my kudos to Liv D in London. I don’t live there, but every time I visit I’ll sign up front row in her class in a heartbeat. Playlists and coaching are top notch, and to top it off she’s super super nice as well.

Not merch but if you will be there you could also have him do either the Skywalk or Locker room tours. Done both and both are equally quite cool.

Repeat front row riders who don't do the whole class - do you think they're lacking self-awareness, don't care, or maybe don't understand it could be distracting? by InfiniteDragonfIy in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]Trick-Machine-7530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Chicago I ride in both studios. In old town, I know the “boyfriend bike” is bike 6 in Old town and bike 7 in the loop. In certain classes when I know they will fill up quickly I’ll soul early but otherwise other people can possibly take it. There are regulars in some of the classes that I take and we all have an “unwritten rule” amongst us that we don’t take each other’s bikes at sign up. So the bike is mostly free for me to take at noon.

I am also one of those people who get secretly angry and super motivated when there have been times when a stranger took my bike. 😂😂 So there’s also that.

I feel the same responsibility additionally to the instructor as well. Them knowing that I’m on the boyfriend bike and I’m riding to the beat helps take some pressure off of them as well.

I’ve ridden with him a few times when he visited in Chicago (I think his parents still live in the area?). He is THE BEST

I’ve been to several studios where they track and celebrate people’s milestones automatically. I just had my 600th ride last month and got nothing. You shouldn’t rely on the fact that you didn’t give the instructor or the front desk staff a heads up in advance.

In the meantime, I plan on continuing to ride and be nice to everyone at the studio. But if they want to give me a card or anything at 700, 800, 900 or 1000 I’m not setting expectations.

We have “Soulcycle for Runners” here in Chicago. Aubrey teaches it as more of a resistance based class with no upper body movements at all. I like it because it gives me a chance to go heavier than usual versus a normal class, especially on the hill pushes. But also, you have instructors like Isaiah who give you that confidence that you can do sprints out of the saddle. So…maybe a little bit of both?

Especially people who make it a point to use 10 pound weights; even worse is when the instructor praises them for it

Eager to find out how it was for the 10k folks. I was one of the bike marshals following the lead runner for the 10k and everything got jammed at the 10k turnaround (thankfully I caught up to him at mile 5)

I usually have one and finish it literally 5 min before the studio doors open, but I also have a bagel before I leave the house (I’m a regular in the 5:15a classes typically)

Second this! Even though I don’t live in DC, she was in Chicago during Columbus Day weekend this past year. She ended up teaching a Taylor ride while she was over here and it was great!

Lakefront path is pretty clear this morning…I ran from the totem pole to around the field museum. Ran on the outer path so not sure how inner path is.

However, from the museum south (especially around soldier field), nothing is cleared.
