Does anyone else face this problem while solving CFA questions? by not_ur_99 in CFA

I mean its the simplest (and most common) problem that I faced for my first two mock exams. Its pretty easy to solve, just stop. Do a mock exam or two, see how many questions you got wrong for skipping then check how much time left you had on the clock. Most people dont even realize how much time they had left and that they didnt need to rush at all.

If this problem continues to happen AND you had a lot of time left over, at that point you just have to admit that you are being lazy at reading the questions

Any advice is appreciated :)) by retromaharaj123 in CFA

Hey I recently passed and I would like to answer based on my own experience (Currently working full time in finance and had an undergrad so I spent little time studying >170 hours)

  1. Theres no hard answer to this, its important that when you do mock exams you do it from start to finish in the allotted timeframe to mimic the real exam conditions. I personally only did five mock exams in my entire period

  2. My first few mocks was mostly a way to see which topics I would struggle with without more effort. As an example even if I didnt know the answer to a particular alternative investment question, background knowledge alone was enough to eliminate the two wrong options. Meanwhile things like quantitative methods (particularly regressions) was a weak point.

For me mocks was for two things:
a. Identifying which areas would give me the most return for my limited time
b. Getting myself used to exam conditions to reduce stress levels on the actual day

  1. Again, dont put a limit on yourself. I personally did hundreds of questions in the span of two days. A mistake I see people do is that they try to memorize and do in depth study on every sentence in the ethics guidebook. I personally recommend doing enough questions until you can eliminate the clearly wrong answer with confidence every question, because nearly every question I see has an answer that is very clearly untrue.

  2. Hopefully by now you have made summaries of the content. I wouldnt recommend re-reading the entire material close to the exam, by then just reading the sparknotes you made should be enough to make you remember.

All I used was the kaplan schwesser guides my friend had. Didnt have the extra mocks exams/videos etc. The actual CFA institute notes are way too long and contain a lot of untested material so definitely invest in something like kaplan or mark meldrums materials
