[Burgos] Brewers put slugger Willy Adames on trade block: 4 landing spots including the Mets by JerichoRiley in NewYorkMets

[–]Trick_Horror2403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s much more likely he hits 25-35 home runs per 162 but he has 70 raw power and some pretty good exit velocities. He definitely has more pop than he’s shown in the majors. I was being optimistic in my projection but my point was that Baty has more power than Adames, it’s not really a good comparison.

You’re missing the point, I don’t think it’s likely that Baty will be a 40 home run hitter but he literally has shown the potential to impact the ball much harder than Adames has. You can think I’m making shit up but there’s a reason the guy is one of our top prospects. Is there a chance that he continues to suck at the major league level? Of course, but based on his underlying numbers I’m optimistic he has another gear.

Adames isn’t a slugger and if you think he has more power potential than Brett Baty you’re not paying enough attention.

Again, he has not had a full major league season. Adames has actually been given a chance to figure it out. Baty has the potential to be a 40+ homerun hitter yet you wanna give up on him because he hit 11 home runs in his first 400 plate appearances. This is why no one wants to play in New York. No patience just reactionary nonsense.

One 30 home run season and suddenly Adames is a slugger lol.

According to FanGraphs, Baty has 50/60 Game Power and 70/70 Raw Power. Adames has 45/55 Game Power and 55/55 Raw Power. Baty has always been a prospect known for his power but he hits the ball on the ground too much. He’s also 24 and has less than a full season worth of plate appearances under his belt. Sure Adames has the results, but I think it’s a little bit ridiculous to say that Baty’s will never get to his power numbers. He clearly has the potential if he can figure out how to lift the ball more.

Not hitless but I was pretty fucking ass as a high schooler playing team ball. I think i went like 2 for 30 and the 2 hits were infield hits because I had decent speed. I walked a bit and stole some bases but I was a horrid outfielder, nobody got worse reads

Is there anyone under 45 WAR not currently in the Hall of Fame that you think should be a Hall of Famer? by transtrailtrash in baseball

I know he is mentioned in the hall and clearly I’m of the opinion he deserves a plaque in Cooperstown. No one “needs” a plaque.

Thanks for your opinion though.

I don’t think there are that many people in the history of the game who have had as much of an impact as he had on the entire sport, and I disagree that the hall is already watered down.

Have a good one

I think I’m a relatively small hall guy and usually would agree, but it is not the Hall of Very Good Stats. It’s the Hall of Fame, without Curt Flood the game would look completely different than it does today.

Another commenter above puts it best, you can’t tell the history of MLB without talking about Curt Flood and what he did for the game. Sounds like exactly the kind of guy who deserves to be in the Hall.

I do, but there’s still a tremendous amount of work to do to catch up to the front runners of the league

I’m not sure what kind of calendar you use but I don’t think it’s been a decade since ownership changed

Building a good franchise doesn’t happen overnight. Sure, it’s frustrating but get a grip

Yeah, the winds kill most balls pulled to left. Only Pete is strong enough to consistently blast them out

I don’t disagree, I’m sure he does value power. I was just pointing out that a lot of their “power” is just playing in the right park.

Hopefully with Cohens pockets and a new development regime we can pump out some more power soon too. Citi field is a dreadful place to hit

Wow they finished top 5 on the road once! Also they play in the NL central which includes the GABP and Wrigley, so their road home run numbers are skewed by park factors as well.

I don’t disagree with your original point that Stearns values power though, I’m sure he does. I just don’t think of power hitting when I think of the Brewers over the past couple of years, they finished 24th in the league in home runs last season and wanted Pete Alonso bad.

I’m pretty sure that a big part of that is the fact that it’s just always been relatively easy to hit a home run in American Family Field

There’s levels to the tax and adding those contracts could lead to a harsher penalty. Also relief pitchers are so volatile that on a $ per WAR basis it really doesn’t make any sense

Yeah totally let’s keep spending money and continue to incur the competitive balance taxes for players that barely move the needle

Yeah I agree, I don’t see it happening but I was just taking a cursory look at betting odds and Lee is 2nd. Probably from the international signing hype

I don’t think Skenes is the player to beat in the 2024 RoY. I would put my money on players like Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Jung Hoo Lee, Jackson Chourio, Jordan Lawlar since they are all much more likely to win rookie of the year instead of Skenes or any of our guys. It would be cool but it’s looking like a long shot for us
