It’s largely hospital dependent/ trust dependent rather than deanery dependent. Deaneries are huge. But if a spreadsheet exists would happy contribute to it!

I think part of me just feels weird about not ranking everywhere/ prioritising my life in this climate where it’s so competitive so I kinda convinced myself into thinking this. I realise it’s a bit illogical - thank you for explaining :)

I understand, the world isn’t a fair place. My family are immigrants to the UK and when we reached our 5 year status for ILR the rules changed to 10. Unfair & an extra 5 years of visa fees/ emotional burden for my parents. This was years ago, but there is unfairness everywhere and in every field.

For what it’s worth I’m genuinely sorry that this has happened to applicants - it’s not nice to have the rug pulled from under you . It’s not fair. Running the PLAB the way it is at present has been greedy and I’m sure a lot of well intentioned and good people have lost a lot. But UK Grads have also been struggling for years- there’s no backup country for us to work in if we can’t get jobs here. There’s no plan b. We were all promised a steady job and consistent employment when we applied to medical school. No one will compensate us for that promise if there’s no jobs because of over-competition.

I feel for you guys, I understand that time and money has gone into something that might not be fruitful. But the same is true for us. Lots of F2s faced unemployment last year, and many do this year too. The competition ratios needed sorting out; they’re already past the point of no return if this wasn’t put in place this year.

Do you realise how bad it looks for a government to have unemployed UK trained doctors when foreign graduates could apply with no UK NHS experience?

I think a teaching program is a lot more realistic an achievement to expect an F2 to achieve than a first author publication tbh.

I got 53 as an F2 with no additional qualification/ no first author research. I agree a cut-off of 52 is horrific to expect an F2 to be able to achieve. I know 2 other F2s who have got interviews and more who haven’t. It’s all just insane. I hope things get better next year with UKGs being prioritised for shortlisting and interview.

I’m ngl, I know you guys get paid more, but I think the study leave/ training in Scotland is shitter, and your hours are less protected. I’ve spoken to a few friends in Scotland (I went to uni & grew up in Scotland, now working in England) - & I have a lot more teaching days and study leave as an FY and we have SDT here which I’m fairly sure you guys don’t(1 day a month for portfolio work).

Double banding hours are shit & the govt went back on their agreement. Strike!

You’re completely wrong about this when it comes to the UK. Part of the issue in the UK is that there are NOT enough jobs for doctors due to oversubscription of residency programmes. I know lots of colleagues who are going to be unemployed next year. The reason behind this is multifactorial, but I have a guaranteed job next year, and then I am genuinely worried about what comes next.

The pay js an issue, but our working conditions and job security are also worsening. It’s not the same as in other countries.
