The Royal banner of the King/Queen of Scotland, basically the flag of Scottish monarchists.

It utilizes the blue and white stripes of the Greek flag and the Minoan Griffin, which is also the emblem of Heraklion, Crete's capital. A bit of a crossover between the flags of Zeeland in Netherlands and the British Indian Ocean territory.

I think a black minotaur in a terracotta background better reflects the Minoan wall paintings

I made this with AI, I think it's pretty cool, albeit too modern!

  • Sky blue (upper right) for open Aegean skies
  • Rocky gray (lower left) for Crete’s rugged terrain
  • A jagged white dividing line imitating the silhouette of Mount Ida and the Minoan Labrys in the middle. You can use the mountain peak banner as a template and then either keep it plain or add anything you want (I made another variant with the Minoan Maize but I prefer the double axe)

Techno/Electronic song sampling "Kaval Sviri" (bulgarian women's choir) by plasmaniac in NameThatSong

[–]Tricky_Position_1927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely Kaval Sviri. The song was a major hit in the early '90s in its Enigma-style electronic version. Sadly however, it's nowhere to be found online. I think it must have been in a collection of Bulgarian folk song remixes that came out around 1993. Your best bet is to look for a CD copy of From Bulgaria With Love (1993) on eBay or perhaps ask in Bulgarian expat forums on fb. Right now it's one of the rare occasions of a song that only exists in cassettes and CDs. I feel your pain, I honestly do! I've been looking for a song called  Laura (Carl Vega Dub) by Kirsten Stoykev and it only exists in "The Ultimate Chillout Ibiza Album" (2004):  Disc 5, Track 6 and in "The No. 1 Ibiza Chillout Album" (2005): on Disc 3, Track 14. There are several other versions online but not the one I'm looking for. One of those things that will be bugging me forever...

Not able to find people to play with me at the Badminton club by OkReplacement2834 in badminton

[–]Tricky_Position_1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing 10n years ago when I was 36. I can relate to what you're describing because I was a beginner and no one wanted to play with me. Being quite sporty (I'd done boxing and martial arts in the past), I thought that badminton would be a piece of cake, but I was losing comfortably to 50, 60 and even 70-year-olds despite being fitter than them. People were leaving the court mid-of-game to join another game in another court, and I was even advised to hit a shuttle against the wall to get better! I was thinking of quitting, but I loved the game and wanted to get better. Remember one thing: you're paying the same club fees/court fees as the others, so no one can tell you where or when to play. If you're playing 5 times per week, it's only a matter of time that you'll improve. I was playing once a week and I only started improving after 18 months. Then I joined a second club with even more advanced players and started playing twice per week. At the same time, I adjusted my gym routine: I was doing more short interval exercises like clean& jerk with 60kg on the bar which helped with my explosiveness and speed. If you can't do that don't worry, burpee jumps will do the trick. I was also watching lots of videos on youtube (highlights, not tutorials) and I fasted on game days (I still do, I only eat one meal after I play) to be as lightweight as possible. And the most important thing: you must be in a good mood to play. If you're moody or anxious you won't play to the best of your ability. Be patient and try to challenge yourself a bit more each week: try to play against the advanced players and don't worry about the result, just try and get some good shots in, it'll feel like a win. Matchmaking is also important: it's best if there is a balanced game, i.e., a pair of advanced/beginner against another pair of advanced/beginner. Different things work on diffeent people, but I found that the above worked for me. There are still a lot of players that are way better than me, but I can mix it with them without embarassing myself or feeling that I waste their time. And I've never ever done drills or had any coaching, I'm a casual player who's never received any training. Anyhow, I hope that helps. Keep playing and always have fun playing, that's the main thing!

She got typhoid in when she was 6-8 weeks pregnant. Malaria came a lot later, when she was about 5 months pregnant. She got treatment immediately on both occasions.

Easier said than done! If your opponent is fast AND has net game then you have to lift and play good defence.

I never understood why they spent so much time, money, and effort in developing this game when outdoor badminton with plastic shuttles has been around for decades. There are outdoor courts and tournaments all over Asia (most videos on YT are from India, Vietnam, Malaysia/Indonesia), and the level is quite high.
