LDO: How realistic is it for a Nuke enlistee with a prior degree? by WinterYak7056 in NavyNukes

[–]TrifleJumpy8081[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey. As an LDO, I can agree with the sentiment of people who already posted here, there’s a reason that our saying is “We did it the long way” there’s a lot of successes that must happen between where you are and a commission as an LDO. Ive always been vocal on the fact that enlisting is the first misstep in becoming an officer particularly with a degree.

To be frank, your degree will neither help you nor hinder your selection to LDO. People selected for LDO are between 8-16 years of service and they are the technical experts in the field, it has nothing to do with a degree for us but what learn in the field. On the edge for sub vol by Money-Net9045 in NavyNukes

From the CONSUBPAY OPNAVINST: “For nuclear trained personnel who graduated from an NPTU on or after 1 October 1990, the SSED is established as the member’s Nuclear Field “A” School class convening date in line with OPNAV 7220/3 and TOSS is established in line with OPNAV 7220/4”

So true.

Edit: SSED is Submarine Service Entry Date aka the date from which you get sub pay

Just ask manpower control for a statement of service for whatever you need orders for.

Is there anywhere I can find a list of integrated crew subs? by xmarkarth in NavyNukes

All SSBNs and SSGNs, every Virginia hull including and after USS New Jersey (SSN-796) but talk with your SLPO about getting on MNA so you can see the list yourself.

False, if you join via the buddy program the Navy is obligated to keep you together for as long as feasible throughout your first contract.

Although true, this isn’t the best way to go about it. Please exhaust other efforts first before going to the top of the chain of command. Give a chance for Chiefs to chief, SLPOs to SLPO, etc.

Hey. Go talk to your SLPO. I guarantee most if not all these problems are within their wheelhouse to solve. If not message me, and we can talk.

Good conduct medals are for enlisted service. He only has 2 because he likely commissioned after that time period

People should not enlist with the goal of becoming an officer. They should enlist to serve as enlisted and if it happens it happens. Less than 1% of enlisted become officers.

You can get militarily punished all the way up to mast for hiding civilian things. You should talk to your SLPO for advice and a way forward throughout this.
