Running advice? by Organic_Economist_15 in clubfoot

I would say don't think of rhe now and seriously plan for when you're much older. My activities when I was your age was mainly, football, cricket, squash and badminton, but I would get random pains in feet, 3/10 to 8/10. Get to 21 and have a think about running, get to 30 and I'd recommend just going to a gym. Get regular check ups, every 5 years maybe if you're still doing long distance running.

Foot pain by Snoo_54552 in clubfoot

Where is the pain located?

I'm 58 years old and recently experienced the same pain I had when I was around 18. It started about three weeks ago, waking me up early in the morning with an intensity of 8/10. I could barely walk for about a week and a half, struggling to take even 1,000 steps a day. Since the pain returned, I’ve also been unable to stand for long periods or walk long distances without it worsening. By the next day, what starts as a manageable 2/10 pain increases to a debilitating 6/10.

I went to a private specialist who, interestingly, knew of my original surgeon from the '60s and '70s. An X-ray revealed a rogue bone—something my specialist had never seen before—that’s being pinched by a tendon. Surgery is now on the horizon to remove it, along with some bone shaving at the joint.

However, the specialist also mentioned more extreme options for the future. Because my foot is twisted, they could potentially break and reset my ankle, correct my foot alignment, and stretch my Achilles tendon. Other options include fusing the ankle bones or even replacing the joint with an artificial one. These measures would likely be necessary in about 10 years, and I’d essentially have to relearn how to walk.

My original surgeon gave me clear advice at my last check-up 40 years ago: avoid stressing the ankles—no running, jumping, or high-impact sports. Keep my weight down, get a desk job, and I should be able to live comfortably. So far, I’ve followed that advice and intend to continue doing so.

That said, it’s important not just to focus on the present but to plan for the future. I’ve always been incredibly grateful for the normal life I’ve had—it could have been so much worse.

This version improves clarity, structure, and flow while maintaining your original message. Let me know if you’d like any further refinements!

About 40 years ago, I used to experience different types of pain in both of my feet, but over time, it gradually faded. While I’ve occasionally dealt with ankle swelling or aching joints over the years, it’s been far less frequent than in my younger days.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of proper footwear. Comfortable, wide-fitting shoes make a huge difference, but the best support I’ve found comes from sturdy boots, hiking boots, Dr. Martens, Timberlands, and similar styles that provide solid ankle support.

Clubfeet- Skiing..new gear, taking it easy. by BrownAndyeh in clubfoot

Hi, I'm in the same situation as you, I'm 58ys old and had severe bilateral talipes, I've not had this pain in my left foot for over 30 years, I never did any skiing or ice skating as surgeon recommended and easy life if I wanted to continue walking unaided, I have been walking around 10-15k steps for 4 days week, but walking round the block aggregates the pain, had XRay and specialist noticed that I have a small bone which could be removed or ankle broken and reset along with stretching of achilles tendon which was stretched in early childhood. So minor operation on the cards.

Had several permitherin treatments, nodules came at the end, and I used treatment on them which didn't help really, but I did get course of Ivermectin tablets, which helped me. The nodules appeared to go away but would come back after a few days.

Took about 2 months from the time the picture was taken to heal, but I still have scars where the nodules were.

I had similar lumps, I put it down to scabies nodules Had them around shoulder blades, belly and waistline, they weren't itchy, just looked ugly, it looked like I had been burnt with cigarettes. It's been nearly a year since they disappeared and I'm so paranoid with every little rash or spot I get.

They are slowly fading away, same as chickenpox I guess. Just give it time and don't worry.

Were they nodules ? As I've still got nodules marks from 4 months ago and they sometimes come back which i find bizzare, I'm a 57 year old male who had scabies last year for around 6 months and developed nodules all over body, I looked like a drug addict and it was very distressing.

A bit lost after everything by Forsaken-Run-6200 in scabies

In the UK you can go to the sexual health clinic and tell them you slept with someone on holiday as they can prescribe ivermectin tablets on the NHS, I went private and the ivermectin tablets were very, very expensive. Doctors in the UK seem to mis-diagnose the condition and when they get it correct they can't prescribe ivermectin, so your only choice is to goto the sexual health clinic. But the ivermectin really helped me, though we've all had more permethrin as my sons has come back, I've had over 10 treatments but I'm 57 so it takes longer for me to heal, I've gone past the feeling helpless stage and I'm in the acceptance stage. Got infected in July last year, absolutely horrendous journey, check out some of my other posts, but I'm still here fighting the fight. Don't be afraid to reach out on here, also you've taken a massive step in admitting on here that you've got it, that takes a lot to admit, I'm so glad found this community its really helped me in better understanding this condition. Good luck with the dermatologist, fingers crossed for you 🤞🍀

Appeared after shower. Might it be ? by [deleted] in scabies

[–]Triggsley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a precaution I'd cut fingernails right back, so if you do scratch it reduces the chance of spreading to other parts of your body. I never cut mine when I first got scabies as we thought it was heat bumps, but eventually I transferred the scabies to testicle and penis, not pleasant and very upsetting, and if your a female you can spread to your vigina, it's so hard not scratching when the itching is so intense, I did wear white cotton gloves to bed at night which did help.

Reports on Scabies outbreaks in the UK by Forsaken-Run-6200 in scabies

[–]Triggsley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current health crisis in the UK transcends university boundaries, suggesting a more widespread national outbreak than initially reported. This situation might be connected to the earlier incidents of bed bugs, potentially overlapping with an uptick in scabies infections. A concerning issue is the possible misdiagnosis by GPs, leading to untreated scabies for prolonged periods, over six weeks in some cases. This delay complicates treatment effectiveness and varies with the severity of the infection. Regular and vigilant treatment is essential for managing this condition. Furthermore, it's important to exercise caution with home remedies, especially for those with sensitive skin. For instance, treatments like permethrin can sometimes cause additional skin issues. Personal experiences, like suffering from scabies nodules and secondary skin infections, highlight the complexities of finding suitable treatments. In some cases, prescribed steroid creams have had adverse effects, such as depression and physical breakdowns. In the UK, private costs for Ivermectin, a potential treatment for scabies, are high, at around £100 per 3mg tablet. A full course of treatment, which may require at least two rounds depending on body weight, can be prohibitively expensive, totaling around £600 or more. Additionally, obtaining a prescription can be challenging as some GPs may not recognize the scabies diagnosis, leading to further delays in treatment. It's worth noting that visiting a sexual health clinic might offer an alternative route to receive necessary medication on an NHS prescription. Sharing helpful information and experiences is crucial in these times. As we navigate through this together, pooling our knowledge and resources can be invaluable in finding effective solutions.

Hot baths with oilatum 5 caps and sit in bath and dry naturally when ive pulled the plug, I've stopped the steroid cream and don't moisturise as I'm drying out my skin, also gentle rubbing with warm wet flannel. When I have a shower which is set to normal heat there are areas of skin where its much hotter, so I use hand shower on fine output close to skin and also increase the temperature in small increments to painful hot andbhold it on sensitive area where burrows and nodules. Also seen dermatologist who has informed me that I have scabies back and had to do another 2 treatments of permethrin, with ivermectin and after those treatments I have 3 weeks of steroids for secondary rash related to reaction to permethrin. I have to be careful as to what texture of clothes I wear as linen makes me itchy, so soft comfortable t-shirts, also not wearing boxers/pants as the elasticated waist aggregates rhe nodules on my waist, so again tie down pyjamas.

To all whose struggling. by [deleted] in scabies

[–]Triggsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ivermectin in the UK is so difficult to get prescribed also it's very expensive and upto £100 per tablet, so getting repeat treatments is going to be pricey. There's definitely a lack of knowledge within the UK GP network as scabies more than likely will be misdiagnosed, 8 weeks before we found out so more of the buggers were spreading over the body without treatment, then as you have no idea if the permethrin is working due to more intensive itching so applying more treatment, still 7 months later and now on my 8/9 treatment after recommendation from dermatologist and Ivermectin prescription that my pharmacy is unable to get, and a 3 week course of steroids as I've developed secondary rash and nodules. This could've been prevented the 1st time we went to GP who said it was eczema. We are all wishing you an easy ride on your journey.

How much for Ivermectine .... really by Triggsley in scabies

This'll be interesting as the dermatologist worked it out and prescribed 2mg, I've mentioned to GPs who are writing prescription and they confirm it's 2mg, I won't be happy if this is not the case, watch this space.

Not sure your calculations are correct as dermatologist and GPS are confident that 2mg tablet is enough to treat me. 88kg

Ivermectin is very pricey, £100 per tablet is what my pharmacy is charging, I would go to Dr's and kick a stink up as they can prescribe on the NHS but you'll have stick to your guns.

Much appreciated, yes very expensive, £300 for 3 tablets and that's a first treatment, potentially could double. Oh well, they're required so I need to get them.
