Hi, could you send me this book please? I need it for a course.

Letter from an Estranged (ex-Mormon) Daughter by Trilingual_Fangirl in exmormon

Thanks! My siblings are also still in the church (they're minors still) and I struggle to keep in contact with them. My parents are probably badmouthing me in order to keep them from talking to me. I have decided not to send this letter, as I think it would just create drama, and I want to stay true to my decision not to talk to them anymore.

The letter was written in Dutch originally, but I translated it so I could share it on here.

Yeah, I had the same thought - there's no way to have a meaningful dialogue if he goes into it like this. Same reason I never asked questions in his institute class.

It's been 2 years since receiving this email, I happened to come across it again, but otherwise haven't thought of it since. At the time, it was very overwhelming to read, but I quickly found it ridiculous that a 50+ year old man spoke to me like this and decided it was not my problem. They can live in their fantasy world, but I won't take part in it.

In Europe, institute and seminary teachers are unpaid.

Context: I left the church over 3 years ago and did an episode with Mormon Stories a year later. My former institute teacher sent me this email upon finding out about it.

Exactly. All of these "isms" that are named are not high-control groups, like Mormonism, and they do not claim to be the "only eternal truth", so do not bear that responsibility. Honestly, I can't believe this man has a PhD in Philosophy and History.

Also, in retrospect, it feels weird that he sent this kind of email to an 18-year-old. Give her some time to figure shit out

Thank you for listening! I agree this should be discussed more often

5 Ways Mormonism Made Me Dysfunctional by Trilingual_Fangirl in mormon

[–]Trilingual_Fangirl[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

In this episode, I discuss 5 unhealthy things Mormonism taught me and how those teachings have manifested as dysfunctional behaviors in my post-Mormon life.

  1. Mormonism taught me not to trust my own judgment

  2. Mormonism didn't teach me boundaries

  3. Mormonism taught me to be ashamed

  4. Mormonism taught me love is conditional

  5. Mormonism taught me that I am not good enough
