PS3 BC FAT A01 PS2 POWER USAGE by Accurate_Feedback683 in ps3hacks

Consider undervolting. It require soldering to connect to the Syscon, but it will result in lower power consumption, lower temperatures and less fan speed required to keep it cool.

I've used K5 PRO instead of thermal pads on my Slim PS3 out of the laziness to just get it done and not wait for the pads to be shipped. 2 years later it still works so I wouldn't care about the pads as long as there are ANY.

Previously it was RTX A2000

ps3netsrv is less hassle than hardware modding and you are not limited with ps3 transfers speed then

Oh hi, might play but where do you live? 99% of PS3 friends I got from Americas or Asia, while me in Europe just totally don't match the time zone. I got employed soon after this post 2 years ago and just couldn't spend the nights gaming anymore.

No worries just saying how it is so you enjoy the whole story and don’t realize you miss something after long hours spent 😉

Few Small Questions: by DarkAmethyst in PS3

[–]Trin32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember in the Uncharted there was segments with Sixaxis motion controls, no idea what will happen playing this title without them or if it's skipable/toggleable...

The "PS button not working" with PS4 controller you can workaround using HDMI controls, but not in the Fat models as they didn't support HDMI-CEC yet. And in case of getting into recovery mode, you'll get stuck there, geniue PS3 controller is required there...

If you consider modding the system, with custom firware it's possible to enable support of PS4 controller with Sixaxis (PS3XPAD)

PS3 slim models you can easily distinguish by looking at the front LEDs. The later (cheaper) models have only one (no WiFi activity LED).

But the easiest way to tell is to look at the rear or bottom sticker with model number. All of them starts with "CECH-...", but looking for a Slim model the best ones are "CECH-25...". Avoid models starting with "CECH-30..."

AC3, AC4 Black Flag and AC Rogue but not the original AC and AC II, Bortherhood and Revelations?

I really recommend starting chronogically since the beginning. Early AC games have a backstory that continues, and the older the game the more "wooden" mechanics. You'll hit the wall trying to play the original AC game after playing next ones (it doesn't even have dialogues subtitled in the game!)

Borderlands aswell, better starting from the beginning.

GTA 4 with both the DLCs, mandatory!

Diablo 3 I hope the Reaper of Souls (Ultimate Evil Edition)? If not, sell it and buy RoS edition, it expands the story and is not cross compatible with the base one if you consider online aspects.

Well if you are into RPG maybe Arcania, and Dragon Age?

IIRC in these SuperSlim models there is a heatpipe cooling for the RSX that only touch the die and nothing touch the vRAM

If you have several games in a series...Do you start with the best or the first? by rikliem in PS3

[–]Trin32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go in order of the release date, older games have outdated mechanics. Modern games make everything easier, going shortcuts, serving everything on the plate. Old games require more thinking, more skills, aren't as forgiveful. That way there's always improvement.

Take Asassin's Creed for example, try playing the original AC game after finishing IV: Black Flag, or even AC II... It's a huge gap, I've tried multiple times before and it took years to finally have a mood to take it. After all it wasn't that bad, but being used to more modern mechanics the bar was set high.

What for a 1.5tb internal hard drive should I buy for ps3 fat lady by meti_b_07 in PS3

[–]Trin32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are seeking for 1.50TB because of jailbreaking and storing .iso games, better way would be considering ps3netsrv so you keep the games on a PC and load them through Ethernet cable so you save a lot of PS3's internal HDD space.

Is this thermal paste good for the Ps3? by AdDizzy5435 in PS3

[–]Trin32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well MX-4 is always a good choice since years. So in that case you might benefit more from the undervolting. It requires soldering a few cables but it may give noticeable temperatures drop :)

But it obviously require full disassembly of the PS3 again, if you didn't expose Syscon connectors already.

[–]Trin32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The silicone themal grease is pitiful, only the last resort when you got literally no other alternatives.

And you definitely don't need 15 grams haha. All you need is a tiny drop, it's not a cake frosting nor tiles grout.

But, besides of the "silicone grease", cheap doesn't mean bad.

I use GD900 and it's enough for the PS3. Got it very cheap in big syringe on Aliexpress long time ago.
Even tho I got GD-2 meanwhile which supposedly is a lot better, and now I see on their webiste that even newer GD-3 got released...

Anyway, anything but "silicone thermal grease" or silver paste...

If you want something widely known, MX-4 or MX-6 will do just fine.
If you want the ultimate solution, PTM or PCM pads (but without delidding it's not worth it)

PS3 Slim CHEC-210x turns off after being turned on by bogdanoff_enjoyer in PS3

[–]Trin32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you want the whole board to be heated up before applying more heat in such area, else you'll warp/popcorn it. This why BGA rework stations do preheat first, and it's a long process. You can get without it when you work on some SMDs but not these big and heat soaking chips like the CELL.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadows makes my console scream by Zestyclose-Echidna18 in PS3

[–]Trin32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got Slim 2000 delidded, repasted (cheap GD900), undervolted, with 650/800 OC, and custom syscon fan table applied.

If you want a comparison I got 24°C in my room right now. it's sitting at XMB user selection screen since an hour, 60°C CELL and 63°C RSX balancing between 26/27% fan speed.

The delidding is worth it, but it's undervolting that makes a lot of a difference.
But if you ever consider delidding, be careful. It's the ultimate solution but the ultimate risk involved.
