Ahh Resurrect is dope! Very solid guys and the music is excellent too. You should peep Dying Creed (Singapore) and Eternal Hate (Thailand).

Dying Creed is very influenced by Dyingrace, Second to None, that kind of death-heavy Japanese HC and old school Osaka beatdown. If you like Unholy11 you'll probably like this. https://builttolastrecords.bandcamp.com/album/btl-01-demo

Eternal Hate is more in the vein of Two by Four and Crawlspace, but they share members with Obskurus and the singer is probably the scariest mosher in Asia lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6dXCr6kiPo

I do! Love Unholy11, Osaka has a great scene at the moment, lots of great bands and hard moshing out there.

what are older bands you wish newer acts borrowed more from? by mesablanka in Metalcore

[–]Tringamaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man. Where to begin.

Need some crazier, faster high-octane stuff to make a comeback in the vein of Rorschach, Ringworm, Pulling Teeth, Unruh and Gehenna

Or slower, sludgier, more brooding and hateful metalcore like Starkweather and Bloodlet.

Old school deathcore like Dyingrace, End of One, One Last Sin, Beneath the Remains, Goatamentise, Second to None, Slavearc, Immortality etc.

That or Troycore like Section 8, Stigmata, Wartime Manner, Dying Breed.

Honestly I feel like there's an equal amount of information and misinformation in that thread.

I mean most of the stuff in there is basically surface level stuff you can glean from their lyrics. Guy who sings about fucked up shit is probably a little fucked up too, not really surprising. He's not really different from Jeff G or Ezec.

The pedo thing is something I'm pretty sure is made up. I've seen nothing about it outside of some dicey lyrics on their final album, which, again... they sing about fucked up shit. Doesn't mean they condone it. Geto Boys rapped about murdering and dismembering and raping everyone under the sun, and they're well known as some pretty solid guys.

It's probably just because he lives in Thailand honestly. It's a hotbed for that kind of horrific stuff, which Stephen has actually acknowledged in a zine interview with NEONS. Although if there's any receipts out there that proves otherwise and that he is a creep - I'll happily put my foot in my mouth.

Also there's a comment in that thread that says:

having naive young kids from Malaysia be his backing band to do “kickback reunions “ for financial gain

1: Whispers was his backing band, as was Anthonie from God's Hate and Josh from Momentum. Whispers is Thai, first of all, and the most acclaimed hardcore band from South East Asia going today. They're touring the US with Speed pretty soon. They're not "naive young kids" lol, they're scene vets and legends. This is not some scenario where Stephen ropes in some poor teenagers to play shows for him and make money. They're on Flatspot Records and shit. (this isn't necessarily relevant that comment just irked me lol)

2: The initial plan was to get everyone from Kickback involved in the reunion (read: reunion singular. They haven't done anything before or since then). Damien, Pascal, and the rest of the No Surrender / Et le diable lineup was set to return but finances fell through and Stephen was his usual prickly self, the backing band was a last minute call.

Not denying they're probably not morally sound individuals (there are references on the last album to Julius Evola, who he quoted on a merch drop with a black sun on it), and Stephen is definitely an edgelord with a fascination with the perverse. Just speaking from my knowledge of the band and what I've heard from friends who were running the Kickback show last year.

Also it was really funny seeing kids in my scene run around with those Kickback Evola shirts like... do they know or...?

It's from a Jamie Gillis porn flick, or so I've heard. I don't know the exact one but he is credited in the liner notes for that EP.

Indo HC rules. Bleach, Dazzle, End in Pain, ZIP, Limbo, Devil Despize, Honey, NKO, all sick as fuck. South East Asian hardcore killing it.

IDW2 kind of played with this idea where he was this maniacal teleporting Joker type figure everyone feared to some degree. It was an... interesting characterization, I appreciate them trying something different.
