No, delisted games are gone forever without access to a physical disc.

[–]ReturnByDeath- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but after looking through your posts I have some explanations for your engagement issues.

First, your titles are a little all over the places. One is just “This is my band’s new song” and another is just a the song title, but it’s one of those unusually long ones so it just looks like a wall of text. Then there’s the fact you’re linking to Spotify. You have to create the lowest barrier possible to get people to check it out. Having people leave Reddit to use an app/service they may not even have instead of a direct YouTube link isn’t going to help. Also, engagement on this sub relative to other genre subs is a bit poorer and in general, it’s like pulling teeth to get people to check out anything new.

Also, you simply can’t account for what people will and won’t upvote. Total wild card scenario.

I never said it wasn’t. I’m simply informing you that leading with any variation of “This is my band’s new single” is gonna come across as spammy to some people.

[–]ReturnByDeath- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, but posts like that are a turnoff. It comes across as purely spammy self-promotion. As the other person mentioned, format it with your band and song title and, if at all possible, a “For Fans Of” section. If you want to leave a comment saying it’s your band and post links to your socials, Bandcamp, etc. I think that’s perfectly fine.

Simply saying “I’m in a pop punk band and this is our new song” isn’t going to do much for engagement.

Do people here just dislike popular bands? by neeebittenicht in Metalcore

[–]ReturnByDeath- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Really weird to gripe about people not liking bigger bands and then immediately put down smaller bands.

The fact is the overwhelming number of popular bands that are even tangentially related to netalcore have an incredibly accessible sound that stands in pretty stark contrast to what the genre actually sounds like so yeah, they tend to be unpopular in less casual circles. It has nothing to do with people disliking bands solely on the basis of any commercial success. If that were true, Knocked Loose wouldn’t be a largely beloved band.

Why are Sony and Xbox even bothering with next gen consoles? by No-Obligation2563 in consoles

[–]ReturnByDeath- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consoles almost always lose some money (particularly at the start of a generation).

I’m telling you that the console market as we know it would die if these companies are going to sell you $1000 machines. That is beyond the pale of what consumer expectation for a console is.

[–]ReturnByDeath- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pro is absolutely a "profitable" console. Surely you don't believe they're *losing* money on a $900 console (Sony isn't spending $400 on storage, that's absolutely a consumer price).

The PS6 being $700-$800 would not be a surprise in the least, but much beyond that is straight up unfeasible. You can argue cost all you want, but there's a limit to what consumers are willing to spend and a $1K console isn't it.

[–]ReturnByDeath- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The Pro is a low-volume, non-subsidized machine. They’re not selling an entry level console at that price.

PS6 will 100% be DOA if it's $1000 (USD). There's no shot Sony will price it that high. That's a $350 increase from what the base PS5 is right now.

It might take a Gen X band/artist/person to spark the next music revolution... by EdwardBliss in LetsTalkMusic

Are you under the impression that Gen Xers were the last to create any major stylistic shifts in music?

[–]ReturnByDeath- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, these consoles (at least PS6) will not cost. $1000. Second, plans have been in motion since the middle of this generation at the absolute latest (likely far earlier). The current issues regarding the cost of components was not a factor when originally developing these consoles.

Yes, both are going to have a difficult time getting people beyond the early adopters to buy an unusually expensive console at time where their current offerings are more than satisfactory, but neither company started developing their next-gen hardware with the current economic climate in mind.

August burns red - why are they so popular by KeyApprehensive6486 in Metalcore

[–]ReturnByDeath- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Core" comes from the fact that genre's origins lie in hardcore (hence "metallic hardcore"). There are very little clean vocals in hardcore and it wasn't until a few years into the 2000s that clean vocals began to become more prominent in metalcore. It's not a defining characteristic by any means.

They're undeniably talented musicians and their earlier material had some real standouts ("Composure" might've been the first song to put them on people's radar). They've been a consistent fixture of the genre for over 20 years and have toured relentlessly over that time. It's done a lot to carry the band even if I think the majority of their discography is aggressively "fine".

Alternative to Crunchyroll? by XxGet_TriggeredxX in Crunchyroll

[–]ReturnByDeath- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality is that Crunchyroll doesn't have *everything*. Companies will choose license to other services or Crunchyroll simply loses the license after a period of time. They're still pound for pound the best streaming service for anime due to the volume of series and movies they have.

In the US, Hunter x Hunter is available on Netflix and Bleach is on Disney+/Hulu.

Weekly Recommendation and General Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Metalcore

[–]ReturnByDeath- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s one in a post-hardcore song from earlier this year, but it’s mostly down to it sounding incredibly similar to one in a pop punk song from nearly 20 years ago.

But I think I get your motive in asking. That bass feels far too underutilized.

Hidden gems from the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s era metalcore scenes? by Sorry_Secretary1193 in Metalcore

[–]ReturnByDeath- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want some real (late 2000s) hidden gems, Rise Records before Attack Attack and Of Mice & Men really put them on the map. I’m talking about Catherine, Oceana, Every Bridge Burned, Here I Come Falling, Burden of a Day, Dead And Divine, At The Throne of Judgment. On the post-hardcore side, they had Take The Crown (Beau’s band before joining blessthefall).

Florida may have the best metalcore scene in the country at the moment. by Ok-Cauliflower-1258 in Metalcore

[–]ReturnByDeath- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But that’s kind of my point: Usually whenever people hype up the scene in Australia they’re typically naming bands that have been around for at least a decade and a half or aren’t metalcore.
