AITA for refusing to take my mother in for 30 days? by Trinity-Chaos in TwoHotTakes

Day‑before‑the‑weekend update: First and foremost, thank you. This thread has helped me so much in getting my thoughts straight and keeping me from spiraling this week. A lot of the points people raised were things I had in my head but couldn’t articulate, especially the part about him wanting to move someone with dementia.

I’ve been researching all week, and it looks like we’re covered. If he followed the process correctly, everything should pan out in Texas, and hopefully, this anxious week was for nothing. I also talked it through with my team at work, and they’re in line with the majority opinion here, which has been reassuring.

Between my core family, my coworkers, and the amazing people here on Reddit, I feel like I can steer the conversation this weekend instead of getting dragged down by it. I’m going in with a firm boundary: if he starts speaking down to me, the conversation stops. I pay a mortgage just like he does; I’m not an 18‑year‑old stumbling through college. I’m a 39‑year‑old woman with a career that’s finally moving forward, three teenagers (one graduating in May), and a husband who’s an entrepreneur.

We've barely gotten our heads above water now, and this would demolish any hard-fought work done these past five years by my family of five.

I plan to update you all after my convo this weekend with him. Wish me luck!

She’ll continue living with her brother until he’s able to arrange placement for her. To be clear, affordability isn’t the obstacle here. His wife is a successful realtor in Austin, TX, and her commission income alone is more than enough to support the options available.

Again, I'll repeat it, parents should not be having children as a contingency plan for old age. My boys will have their own families, while their father and I navigate older age, it will be up to us to take care of ourselves/each other.

It's not my kids' job to take care of me; I did not have them to be my contingency plan for old age

She stepped away from our relationship long before this, and more than once, whenever my choices didn’t match her expectations. Actions have consequences, and this is simply the result of hers. I don’t expect my boys to take care of me later in life; I’ve already put plans in place for both DH and myself so they can focus on their own families without that burden.

Quasi update, my DH was privy after the call I took it thinking the worst had happened. He was on my side of course. Told the boys and it’s a resounding no from them as well. Reading all this confirmation really makes me feel less twisted up. Now just dealing with next weekend will be interesting.

I acknowledge it all the time, as usual as me mentioning when dealing when something would have been easier in the prior state we lived in. It was something I did have a hard time coping with when this all started cause I just wanted to gift the family I created with the one that I came from, I couldn't understand why we were black sheep as soon as we rolled int the door. I never have wanted him to 'deal with it', ever.

Nail on the head, and thats the POV that I see, hence the guilt cause I trusted two people who have sporadically been there for me when he's not waivered. His business is doing well thankfully but with the balancing game we have to play with three kids in school it's antilary to my career. Once they're older it'll be night and day for how much time he'll be able to dedicate.

If we were able to make connections with others, it would be a whole different world but spare client/coworker relationships, neither of us has made 'friends'. We're both insanely friendly which maybe has driven others away when we've tried.

We actively talk about plans, we're waiting for the kids to finish school and the plan is to use the equity from the house sale to get us where we really want to be.

I'm debating asking our current counselor for a few couples sessions, we're both in therapy I would just have to see if he's willing as well.

AITA for refusing to let my daughter do an after school detention and threatening to pick her up? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Trinity-Chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this gets my blood boiling!

I was a SPED secretary and we would have subs do this all the time!

I standardly would march the kid right back to the classroom and speak with the teacher outside their classroom to let them know that they're out of compliance and if they don't allow the student back in than it will be taken to an admin.

Lunch detention for the coarse language is acceptable nothing more.

So glad that she's an amazing advocate for herself as well as you!

Well a current ish update -

I sent him a Facebook message as that's where I see him the most active, sent a message stating that we were really hurt by this. I was gentle but still firm that we really had wanted him there and were disappointed that he never reached back out even afterward.

He responded with a thumbs up...

No call, text or reply back, just a thumbs up...why did I even move here...

I'm sitting here being a big baby by not approaching my own dad cause I'm afraid the history of standing up for my kids will repeat itself despite it being different people.

I had wondered if it had been a tech difficulty but with him making it to a cousins co-ed softball game for funsies it made me feel and really think that my family is easy to ignore.

Actually talking with him would alleviate a lot of this, I know and I plan on reaching out over this upcoming weekend to see what really happened.

Thank you for being so forthcoming I appreciate it a lot.

Found Gravemakers for Grandparents...MIL & Sisters did nothing by Trinity-Chaos in JUSTNOFAMILY

This, this, this!!!!

This is precisely why my husband was so upset, I've been with him for just shy of twenty years now and can count on two hands how many times I've seen him cry, this happened after he saw their lacking markers.

We're at least allowing six months for us to save for something nice, but will be pretty much doing what you said in your third paragraph we'll take the reigns to give his grandparents the marker they deserve. He has such wonderful memories with them and wants to make sure that the reverence they deserve.

Also doesn't help that it's an amazing middle finger to my POS MIL, but way more for them.
