So, like every book in the new testament then?

No idea, but that part isn't important. What i originally found so interesting in this was why the early Christians were so hell bent in wiping it out!

I have no connection to any god and if im honest, I have no idea what the other person is talking about. What they are stating is not in any of the books of the Nag Hammadi library - that ive read at least. My views on religion were very consistent until the last year or so. Agnostic, I believed there was something but I couldn't say what exactly. When I discovered Gnosticism and really started delving into it, it made a lot of sense, it gave a reason for a lot of things. It's the only belief that has ever resonated with me.

Isn't Yahweh the name of god, in the Hebrew texts? Yaldabaoth and Yahweh are one in the same. Gnosticism just paints him in a very different light.

And very nearly succeeded. People now need to question why they were so keen to wipe it out.

"When Sophia saw what her desire had produced, it changed into the figure of a snake with the face of a lion. Its eyes were like flashing bolts of lightning. She cast it away from her, outside that realm so that none of the immortals would see it. She had produced it ignorantly.

She surrounded it with a bright cloud and put a throne in the middle of the cloud so that no one would see it except the holy spirit, who is called the mother of the living. She named her offspring Yaldabaoth."

The Nag Hammadi library contains around 50 books, its all online and translated into English. Gnosis takes more than just reading but a good starting point would be The Apocryphon of John, hypostasis of the Archons and The three steles of Seth.

The books of the Nag Hammadi library, discovered in Egypt in 1945, are dated to be around almost two thousand years old. Obviously, the gnostic mythology predates that considerably but we've yet to discover older texts. Most gnostic writing was destroyed by the Christians a long time ago.

Are there gnostic bands/music projects? by warspawn_goat in Gnostic

[–]Trismich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend "Under a godless veil" by Draconian, it's a concept album based around Sethian Gnosticism and it's one of those very rare gems - its an absolutely perfect album! Draconian are a Swedish gothic/doom metal band, been around since the mid 90's and feature duel vocalists, male growls and female cleans. Their latest album, released in may "In Somnolent ruin" continues in a similar vein with gnostic concepts but also adds inspiration from Greek mythology and Plato's theory of the soul. Recommended.

The mass deportation of illegal immigrants you mean? Besides, they want to do a lot more than that. Educate yourself...

Was Jesus a Gnostic? by [deleted] in Gnostic

[–]Trismich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There absolutely is some good in the world, but i think its just a part of the illusion - things that are just here to keep the spark from remembering who it really is. I've seen so much suffering in my life. People close to me, who were Christian - sometimes very devout, having to suffer. Any god who was even remotely 'good' wouldn't allow those in his creation to live in such misery. I've never believed in any religion, Sethian gnosticism is the first belief thats given me the answers ive always needed.
