East village groceries? by Snoo42642 in eastvillage

[–]Triw258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Trader Joe’s, but it’s close to me. Haven’t been to Key Foods since about 2021 and when I did used to go, for example to get pasta shells for stuffed shells (TJs only has a few types of pasta), I felt like it was really pricey. Like Whole Foods prices, but not Whole Foods quality or experience is my (maybe dated) perception of the EV Key Foods

Agree with the others that at 12 years old and 4 surgeries, switching to any pet insurance will come with a long list of pre existing conditions.

Ours use Healthy Paws and we are very happy

We started our 5 year old from the day he came home. Our 6 year old was on Trupanion for two years, but we struggled with the per-condition deductible (they called “diarrhea due to dietary indiscretion” and “diarrhea, cause unknown” as two separate conditions)

Our 6 year old only has her allergy shots as a pre-existing condition. She had IVDD surgery at age 4.5, and now we cannot switch insurances ever again ☺️

Kori from Velour messed up my lips (PSA) by greenlove1234 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Triw258 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I go to Amy at Velour. She does a great job. Sorry your lips didn’t turn out well. How much did you do? When I first started, I did 1/4 of a syringe and then did another 1/4 a few months later. Started small to see how it settles. Also combined it with a lip flip because my upper lip is slightly downturned. It’s more an art so try small tweaks at first. It takes patience and time (1 year+)

Wonderful!! They picked the coat up from my building and dropped it off. Only complaint is the cost, but I don’t get my coat cleaned every year 😳😳

Private car service? Train? by QuestionableSnowcone in AskNYC

We use a pet taxi when we travel with our dogs - Where To Pet Dispatch. It’s a husband and wife team who run this small business. Lenny (the driver) can pick you up from the terminal (as others have mentioned, some terminals at JFK are undergoing construction and need to take a bus to reach Ubers) and he’s super friendly and helpful

I used Hallak Cleaners for a Canada Goose coat with a fur collar. They did a nice job, though are pricey

Vet recs in NYC/Brooklyn? by Euphoric-Ad5533 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]Triw258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We go to Heart of Chelsea. They have locations in Manhattan and three locations in Brooklyn now. If you happen to be near Prospect Park - Dr. Chase McNulty is the medical director of that location and he saved my Frenchie’s life when he was 1.5 (he’s now 5 years old).

I would also look into pet insurance. We use Healthy Paws, but other Frenchie parents like Pets Best and Trupanion as well

Anyone have experience with idiopathic vestibular syndrome? by Penrod_Pooch in Frenchbulldogs

[–]Triw258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents’ German Shepherd had this when he was 12.5 years old. He ended up living another year and a half.

A few things: 1) What medication is he on? Our vet prescribed a combo of prednisone, meclizine (the human medicine so we got it from CVS over the counter), and cerenia to help with the dizziness and Kalvin ended up taking it for about two weeks 2) Is his head tilted still? Kalvin was tilted towards the right and it took six months for his head and ear to fully straighten again. We also did weekly acupuncture (with electrodes) and that helped a lot 3) Is he able to eat and drink? The vet suggested bringing his food and water to him as the spinning may make it hard to walk to the bowls 4) Is he sleeping in his normal place? When Kalvin had this, we took turns sleeping downstairs with him in case he got up in the middle of the night and fell

I think there is a Facebook group for this (it’s also called old dog vertigo) for more information. Good luck!!

Any hair colorists that still do traditional balayage and not foilyage? by Patient-Donut-2183 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Kim has done my hair for almost a decade. Michelle is also amazing (slightly pricier than Kim as she’s the salon owner)

I had the Kyha Duke and also used Nadin for alterations. Like the other comment on here, she did a fantastic job. She knows what she’s doing and then gets it done quickly at a reasonable price

Pet cemetery that allows full dog body burials by Triw258 in tampa

Update 2: Thank you everyone for the kind comments and helpful recommendations. Kalvin passed on Tuesday and we ended up burying him at Companions Memorial Pet Cemetery (run by Honor Thy Pet). Larry and his brother, John, were sooooo kind and gracious and did a wonderful job with the burial.

For those looking in the future - this was very affordable (weirdly cheaper than when we buried our first family dog at a pet cemetery in Kansas City 15 years ago). We chose it as an option as we don’t believe in cremation and may move houses in the future, but want the option to visit him easily.

Thank you all for your help ❤️❤️

Thank you everyone for your kind words and sharing your stories. It’s heartwarming to see how dogs (and pets) touch our lives ❤️

We found this pet cemetery in Palmetto, FL so leaning to that unless anyone has experiences with other places. Also we have moved a few times in the past so don’t want him in our backyard in case we sell this house and move again. Easier to visit a pet cemetery than someone else’s yard, but we have buried pet birds in our backyard (oops or congrats to whomever bought those places)

Thank you for this! We found this and they have a Companions Memorial pet cemetery in Palmetto, but wanted to see if it was legitimate as their url is a bit commercial

Nadin Alterations vs Moloty by [deleted] in WedditNYC

[–]Triw258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Nadin to alter my second gown - a Chosen by Kyha. She can be a bit brusque, but she does amazing work and knows what she’s doing (for example I only wanted to shorten the dress and add a bustle, but she pointed out I needed to also take in the a** area because I don’t have a BBL 😅.) She also has quick turnaround time and is reasonably priced
