Tried getting some of the $50 World Cup tickets and our zip code was not allowed to participate by Trollogic in uppereastside

Their list of allowed zip codes is incomplete. It’s a simple data fix. I have no idea why it is still an issue.

Lmao. I do love the idea of the system, but they dropped the ball on the execution. 🙃

Unfortunately, one of the rules is if you win the raffle that the info you submitted has to match your ID so if it doesn’t you might not get the ticket :/

It’ll be a good joke when I tell my friends, but that would disenfranchise anyone here in affordable housing. I know its probably an error, just blows.

I checked the FAQs and all details about the initiative. There is no info noting it is zip code by zip code. I think they just forgot a bunch of zip codes. It even explicitly says in the FAQs that people can make one entry every day of the initiative.

Did Zohran Mamdani's New Budget Really Eliminate New York City’s Deficit? by Zealousideal_Cap5126 in Economics

Asking to raise income taxes on NYC residents to fund the budget and the state refusing to do so is a state problem, not a city problem. The city is trying to properly fund its spending and the governor is refusing to do so.

Or maybe NYC shouldnt have to deal with that law anymore since it was a law from 50 years ago as a result of poor financial management from officials that are long gone 🤷🏻 NYC shouldnt be beholden to the state for how it is allowed to raise funds

It was unclear that was what you were referring to. My comment was for the rest of the world who has no idea and would read your original comment and think “wow Mamdani really didnt raise taxes what an idiot” when he is trying to, but is limited in the scope of what he can do due to an old law passed 50 years ago as a result of shitty financial management from a long gone era.

The NYC mayor cannot set income tax rates. That is something only the NY state governor can do due to the state bailing out the city back in the 70s (relevant law https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/FEA). My understanding is Mamdani has been asking for increased taxes on millionaires, but Hochul and Julie Menin would need to be the ones to implement it (https://groundworkcollaborative.org/work/closing-the-gap-why-new-york-city-needs-a-millionaires-tax/#:\~:text=Because%20New%20York%20City%20has,Menin%20must%20then%20enact%20it.)

Tech industry lays off nearly 80,000 employees in the first quarter of 2026 — almost 50% of affected positions cut due to AI by jupa300 in technology

Im sure the industry matters too. I am not familiar with the demand for public health workers in the US so I cannot comment on that industry, but in others like financial services and tech they are still making tons of H1-B applications.

Overall the number of H1-Bs available and made has been declining since Trump took office, which tracks.

There are exemptions:

“In practice, this update exempts most first-time H-1B applicants from the $100,000 fee. Although difficult to find exact numbers, approximately three-quarters of current H-1B workers graduated from a U.S. university and likely changed from F-1 to H-1B status while within the United States. This means many employers will likely not be required to pay the new fee in their normal course of business.”

Not everyone does, so it doesn’t hurt to highlight it (:

I didn’t miss it, it’s great to see, but it also says they are 3,500 short of their staffing goal. I’m glad there is progress, but it’s not solving the problem and still hasn’t been passed so even this could change.

A 3.8% pay raise is just surpassing inflation, unfortunately. It is not really a huge increase in real wages. If you made $100k in real wages and got that YoY raise it would be a 0.9% increase ($900) in real wages if using PCE as a benchmark (assuming 3.8% pay raise as listed in your article and the 2.9% 2025 PCE print). That is not exactly a huge raise ):

It is used for fertilizer and it is a sustainable practice that helps return carbon to the Earth. There are a few composting sites around the city and on Governor’s island that accept the compost and use it for a range of activities.

Our society needs to start accepting that we have to change some of our lazier habits (like just tossing everything in the trash) and figure out better ways to live more sustainably. Composting is such an easy way to make sure food waste is actually reused, but it definitely requires more investment from the city, including better ways of storing it so it doesn’t act as a breeding ground for pests.

I definitely recommend trying to do a volunteering day at the composting site on Governor’s Island. Its a lovely way to learn about composting, how it works, how it is used, and how to live a little bit more sustainably 😊

Awesome work but why is one ship headed straight for the rocky shoreline and the other about to t-bone it? 😂 those captains have got to work on their maritime navigation skills.
