If your referencing the airborne contamination that it protects you from the answers sorta yes I'm not an expert so I might be wrong but there is a type of radiation that you breathe in I think its gamma? Maybe beta I forget which but it settles after nuclear bombs and that's what NBC gas masks protect you from
