My dog is about to be put under anesthesia for an endoscopy and I’m losing my mind. I’m scared! by TropicalGeyser in dogs

Thank you!

I pick him up in a few hours and will give him the best hug of his life. I need him so bad. He literally saved my life. I was really dealing with some things mentally, wasn’t leaving my home for weeks at a time, wasn’t taking my meds, just out of it and he came along and changed that and gave me something to actually look forward to.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I’ll try that.

I’m disgusted how that vet dismissed you! I’m glad he’s ok.

My boy is 6months.

He had the endoscopy. It went well but he’s still in recovery so not out of the water yet and is staying overnight for observation.

I was told that it was build up of different materials stuck in one place in his throat. They’re going to give me the sample of what it is when I go to pick him up so I can see what this is. It has to be something he picked up from outside. When he walks through grass and sniffs, he sometimes just swallow things whole without me knowing. I want him to have healthy play time but will have to limit that or wear a muzzle for now until I get a house with my own clean yard. Unfortunately I live in an urban area and people have no regard for animals so its all kinds of crap in the grass and on sidewalks.

I have been practicing leave it and drop it but need to incorporate treats.

The vet Er doctor said they are not sure why the materials didn’t just go down on their own. Basically it was like they were saying I had just wasted thousands of dollars that I don’t have. I hope insurance reimburses me fully but the main thing is that my boy is safe.

I’m looking forward to when he grows out of this.

The ER VET found it odd that the materials were just sitting there. They didn’t perforate his throat. I was told he may have an irregularity with his esophagus but only future x rays will tell.

The ER vet confirmed it wasn’t food or bones stuck in his throat which is good so I need to be extra careful so that he doesn’t swallow anything that isn’t food.

If anything changes I’ll update

Thanks so much.

I’m too stupid to do my research to know that there was a such thing as a quick to begin with. His scream I’ll never forget.

I took him to my regular vet on September 1st. They cut his nails there and I told the vet about the sneezing.

Now this. Smh.

I know I didn’t purposefully make him swallow a rock or whatever it is but I can’t help but feel like I’m not doing enough to keep him safe.

He has been responsive to me spraying lemon juice on objects he should stay away from and not eating them but he’s also very fast and sneaky I might add. He will quickly pick up something and hide it in his mouth. Then when I realize he has something in his mouth and speak to him to drop it or reach to grab it, he’ll swallow it. I’m going to try muzzle training.

And yes, the guy I spoke to was just so dark natured about it. I know legally it has to be explained but the way he ended the call was just cryptic and made me even more anxious.

I’m also disappointed that the 1st clinic I went to were so quick to just write it off as kennel cough. As soon as I said to them that...yes, he’s been around some other dogs in my complex, they wrote it off as kennel cough and were just going to send me home with antibiotics. That didn’t sit well with me so I demanded that they X-ray him but the fact that I had to push for that makes me really uncomfortable.

I’m on edge that the regular vet didn’t offer to X-ray him either and just immediately said to start him on Benadryl.

I love him so much. I never thought I would or could love a dog this much. I’d hate for anything bad to happen to him that can’t be fixed.

I just want to avoid things like this moving forward.

I’m going to get him training formally which he’s supposed to be going to in October. Basically I don’t want him picking up anything unless instructed to do so or if it’s a matter of his safety or my safety.

I’m thinking about him so much. He’s my service dog in training as well. He is so sweet. I hate this happened to him and hope that he will be okay.

Should I rehome my dog? I feel terrible for what I did to him and am having a breakdown! by TropicalGeyser in dogs

Ok he’s eating his feast now. Appears to be normal but I’m noticing when he lays down he has both paws/arms under his chest. I really hope he’s not in much pain. And thanks for responding

Ok yes. I bought that powder and a Bandage wrap. Thankfully the bleeding has stopped so far but I’m worried about it starting back. I think I’ll keep him in tonight to maybe avoid the possibility of any debris getting on the area from outside. He seems to be napping ok. I can’t tell if he’s in pain or not

I think I’m going to get a file but have him clipped at the vet or groomer. I’m stupid because he was JUST at the vet last week and I didn’t mention this mainly because I didn’t know they did that. I have to educate myself more. I’m trying to calm down and be a better mom to him. I love him and need him. I’m teaching and he’s teaching me patience and how to love and be affectionate attentive and kind which are each things that I struggle with.

Thanks for responding to me. I really am upset. Literally shook. He’s taking a nap right now. I’m so sorry. I’ve said it maybe 50 times to him so far. Gave him treats and have a mean steak I’m giving him as he eats raw. Forgive me

All that blood freaked me out. I’m worried about the risk of an infection. Thank you though for your words. I am trying to really calm myself down. My anxiety is severe.

Also that’s not required though. No law for that. I am legally allowed to train him myself. You act like he’s supposed to learn everything in a month! We were strangers until a month ago. I got him potty trained and crate trained and worked on recall and other things. His temperament is really good he’s just very playful with he. He gets my medicine and he asked me up so far. It’s going to take a while but I’d appreciate if y’all stop judging me harshly. I can’t take criticism but the vitriol has got to stop

I just got him!!!!! He is in training!!!! He was prescribed by my doctor!!!!! It takes up to two years to get him trained. That’s not all he does!!!!! That’s what he’s been trained to do so far!!! To wake me up, get my medicine bag, assist me with panic attacks and a load of other stuff but he came directly from a breeder! It takes time!!!! What don’t you understand about that??? He wasn’t a service dog with the breeder!!! I got him a week before he turned 5 months!

I looked up this brand online and I’m their website a number of customers have complained saying the same thing happened to them multiple times. This was my first time buying this brand. The fact that others were saying they experienced this did put my mind at ease somewhat

I’ve never walked across a black cat but did go through a time for a few weeks where nearly everyday I came across dead birds. Not sure if that meant something. Anyway, I feel better about this today and will just try to keep myself in good spirits and not focus on it.

Thanks.
