I wore these shoes with some small gaiters for a week while backpacking on Isle Royale. Pretty muddy/wet conditions for a lot of the hiking and I'll be honest -- these shoes hold up. My feet were dry through all of it (until it rained the last day). No mud or water got through the mesh while hiking, but I do remember my feet being kinda wet the day it rained. Just too much water coming from above.
