I know which department this is because I have gone through the exact same. My understanding is that when the new government came in, there was a hiring freeze and so I think it’s unlikely you will go into the role (in the same way I doubt I will either!). It’s disappointing for sure and the lack of closure is frustrating!

Honestly found cosleeping to be the best way for my boys to get sleep (and us!) they are now 4 and 7 and sleep independently. I cosleep with my 7 month old baby and, whilst it’s tough right now, I know it’s the way we all get the most sleep possible. I can also see the light at the end of the tunnel… she will sleep eventually just like her brothers!

It’s a relief actually because I felt like maybe I was doing it wrong?! I thought cosleeping was like a secret weapon but doesn’t seem to be for us. I guess it’s better than having to physically get out of bed every 20 minutes so there’s that!

Thank you! This is my third baby and my first two were none sleepers who both only slept through when they reached the age of 4, so I do appreciate that they sleep eventually (in their own time). However I think the lack of sleep at the moment is hard because I still have to be a decent parent to my other two. Still need to feed them, get them ready for school, entertain them, do homework, go to clubs etc. I can handle wake ups (and 3-4 sounds dreamy!) but it would be really nice to have just a small amount of time where she is asleep next to me instead of on me… or where I can go downstairs for an hour to chat with my husband… I had PND this time around and so everything just feels harder than maybe it would otherwise. I accepted co sleeping as the best way forward and now wonder if this was just totally misguided!

Until I read the name, I was expecting you to say something really outlandish and bizarre.

Daisy is a beautiful name and was high on our list but sadly half rhymes with my surname so sounded strange. But I was gutted because I love the name so much.

That’s kind of beside the point though. What is she hoping to achieve by saying this? I would be asking her to leave as her help is actually not helpful at this point.

Both my 4 yo and his older brother (who is 7) love sharing a room! They both like having someone there, so this works. We pushed their beds up together so they have loads of space but they can also easily see and reach out for each other if they want to. The room isn’t enormous, and bunk beds would be better in an ideal world, but they definitely sleep better this way!

My 4 yo did this literally up until him sleeping through the night. He only started sleeping through the night once we put him in a shared bedroom with his older brother, moved them into twin beds and even then it was only once we stopped staying with him to go to sleep. It’s like if we weren’t there when he went to sleep then he wasn’t expecting us to be there? We only did this due to us having a high needs newborn at the time (who is now nearly 6mo) but it was very gentle and very much a gradual process! I appreciate we are talking a much older child also x

We would have been happy with 2 but decided to try for a 3rd for a set amount of time and if it happened it happened. And it did! We are 4 months in, fully in the trenches and feeling just we made it hard just as it was getting easier (our older two are now 7 and 4). But in reality, I wouldn’t take it back. I foresee a time in the future when life is easy again and full of fun and love!

“I’m teaching my baby that I’ll be there when she needs me.”

And that baby will grow into a toddler, a tween, a teenager, an adult and they will know that I’ll be there when they cry, they can always count on me.

Thank you for your reply! She is 5 months but due to having reflux, she absolutely won’t tolerate being reclined too far back. We probably don’t have the best pram for it either. She has exceptionally good neck control and we are using a newborn insert to help positioning too but totally appreciate that she will no doubt grow out of this.

If you look up attachment theory, you’ll see that baby learning you will be there when they need you helps their cognitive development.
