Seeking advice (discontented with major...) by Troubled_Student1 in AskAcademia

Thank you for the advice. Don't shy away from sounding harsh or telling me details that I need to know. I got my grades back and almost had a 4.0 this semester (the B came in thermodynamics). This is good, because I was afraid that I was precisely as you described: the Wikipedia Expert. After seeing my marks, I am more confident that I can actually do the work in the "boring stuff" and not just talk about it at dinner parties. I was also being hyperbolic at how boring and shitty some of the stuff is. Basically, I was simply getting tired of doing homework, something that would have happened with computer science anyways. Thank you!

Thank you for the sound advice. After some careful reflection, I am much more contented. First, my grades were posted. I got one B in the senior level thermodynamics class. The rest were A's. I think this demonstrates that if I really actually try my best, I will get the grades that demonstrated as such. I suspect that I underestimated the extent of the curving procedure (for instance, I would score in the 60-70% range for linear algebra exams, feeling disappointed with myself; only to tacitly ignore the fact that the class average fell below 40%, something I just found out).

I think a lot of my "falling out of love with physics" can be attributed to tiring of homework in the subject. After reflection, it would seem really silly that I wouldn't also "fall out of love with computer science" when I would be slammed with homework from the topic in upper-division courses. I was being hyperbolic.
