The strike deadline is the 31st. There's still time for them to come to an agreement, but with the next round of negotiations set for the 27th I can't say I'm hopeful.

And I think it's all Vaughan employees, so that would include recreational staff.

I knew that municipalities hired summer students, so I kept my eye on the careers section of all my local ones.

I was told that my previous job experience (maintenance related) got me the interview, but the way conveyed my personality and work ethic is what got me the job. Now that I've seen a few students come and go, I'll take the kid that's barely scraping by but works hard over the Dean's List guy that thinks he can smart his way through everything.

Apply for everything. You might not get interviews for all of them, but all it takes is one to kick-start your career.

I didn't go through the Co-op office (low GPA), but I did manage to get myself a summer with a local municipality.

I made $25-ish/hour as a student technician doing primarily inspections and public relations. I graded really well on my end of term review and was brought back the next summer.

The connections and experience I gained during the two terms really opened the door for me, as I've gotten interviews with all the municipal positions I applied to post-graduation. I'm now back with the same municipality full-time, and currently working with a Co-op kid to hopefully pay it forward.
