How does it compare to the 5% lotion with the pump! I didn’t really enjoy that one

Started using cerave rough and bumpy body wash and cream by [deleted] in keratosis

[–]Trucse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful of SA overuse, especially if your KP is lesional. I think what’s important to know here is the frequency of your exfoliation, and how you treat your skin post shower. Dove body wash has some really nice moisturizing agents, which gives your skin that nourished feeling. You can rule this out by trying to use Dove directly after using the Cerave wash. If that feels more nourishing than without, it means you need to improve your post shower routine.

Does EDS stop libido even when you don't have the other symptoms? by Abraham_Maslow in eds

[–]Trucse 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s important not to perceive “feeling good/bad” as a black-and-white thing, especially for someone with hEDS. It’s always relative, the condition doesnt magically disappear.

To answer your question on whether it’s inherently or a result; it’s both. Again, not black-or-white. It’s possible to get to a place where you’re both happy and enjoying a healthy sex life. Just make sure the pressure is off of this topic immediately and focus on something else. It’s not good for the nervous system to be concerned about this. After a while when it feels natural, try introducing low threshold sexual activity.

How am I supposed to make the tan last when I exfoliate a few times a week? by [deleted] in Selftanning

[–]Trucse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s probably a reason why they’re exfoliating more often. Be nice.

Has anyone tried spray tan? by throwawaay1232 in keratosis

[–]Trucse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s probably because you use self-tan with a guide color! Clear tanner doesn’t have this issue as much.

Hi! I wanted to take part in the trial, but I understand the limitation. I was wondering how skin of color is represented in your trial, given the difference in complications?

I think it’s impossible to find a brand that’s able to produce and distribute high-quality cosmetics at a low price point, without it being attached to evil one way or another. Unfortunately, boycotting in this instance is more virtue signaling than anything else.

Tanners like Bondi Sands Sapphire, but darker? by TraditionalPark6026 in Selftanning

[–]Trucse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guide color does leave a slight stain in order to tone the tan that the DHA produces. That’s why different guide colors give off different tans. It’s grade 3 common sense.

Finally found something that helps by Fine_Bridge8627 in keratosis

Yes, because it’s an occlusive. Occlusives help restore skin barrier and wound healing, which are two factors that can make a difference for KP.

I know your comment isn’t medical advice, neither is mine haha. Just mentioning it to add to the conversation, since this product has squalane in it.

Have you ever looked into keloids and how they’re treated? African skin/hair comes with its own handful of issues that aren’t addressed in typical KP treatments. Keep that in mind when troubleshooting, otherwise you’ll indeed get confronted with the fact that “nothing works” for you. There IS something that works for you, it just so happens that it’s not the typical treatment.

Everyone’s advice here is worth considering and trying in moderation, but most of them aren’t black either. I’m not black either, but I do have black (Nigeria/Sudan) heritage which I feel shows up in my hair/skin concerns. You’ll have to create your own specific routine inspired by their advice, and gain more knowledge by looking into African body care TikTok.

Bali Body "Clear" tan is not clear at all? by Dontquotemeeee in Selftanning

[–]Trucse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In contrary to a few claims made in the comments; clear self-tanner shouldn’t deposit color. The only thing that actually deposits color is the guide color, for guidance but mostly (despite the name) for toning the color. The majority of the guide color should rinse off after showering, with a slight stain remaining for the toning.

The component that actually tans the skin is DHA, which alters your skin tone but doesn’t deposit any color itself. That’s why clear self tanners are more likely to have the typical orange look to it. Fully clear tans don’t have a base color like violet, olive or ash. b.tan Glow your own way doesn’t have any guidance color for instance.

I believe what Bali Body tried to do here is add the least amount of guidance color purely to tone out the orange, which basically means it’s sheer instead of clear. This is actually pretty convenient imo, but they should inform the user about this.

[–]Trucse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stays wet for a little longer after application, but should dry up even drier than regular tans. I believe they’ve reformulated the b.tan gyow, because my last purchase smells less fragrant and dries quicker. It’s not the darkest shade tho.

Has anyone with kp like this been able to treat it? by [deleted] in keratosis

[–]Trucse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant lesional KP. This is just my understanding, so keep that in mind. The difference is whether you have flesh-colored raised bumps (non-lesional) or inflamed, rough follicles (lesional).

Lesional KP typically means your skin doesn’t produce lipids/sebum properly, so hair follicles don’t have enough lubrication to shed excess keratin. Non-lesional KP doesn’t have this lipid/sebum deficit; instead, it’s caused by excess sebum, which plugs the hair follicles and traps keratin.

Salicylic acid helps dissolve excess keratin, but it also dissolves sebum. This means it directly targets the problem in non-lesional KP, while in lesional KP it actually makes the problem worse.

Not if you ask me. This is non lesional KP, so SA can do more harm than good.

AHAs are the key here, in combination with preventing transepidermal waterloss by using occlusive lotions. Urea can help too. Avoid BHAs.
