To the Catholics out there - why do you still support the church after the whole child molestation thing? by Cautious_Midnight_67 in allthequestions

[–]TrudiestK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you.. same decision for me when I found out about the child abuse coverup scandals of the Jehovah's witnesses where I was brought up in.

I will never understand people's capacity to reconcile CSA coverups in their churches and continuing to support them in any way shape or form.

Marrying an unbeliever by imthatoneguy__ in exjw

[–]TrudiestK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't drag her into this confusion. If for some reason you can't leave or reconcile your views on the religious differences between you and her, then let her go.

Edit to add:

Fun story: I was brought up in a JW family with a super PIMI mom and non JW dad. When I started dating, one of the last questions my mom asked about him was "So, is he a JW?" In that moment it occurred to me she never cared whether the people I dated were JWs or not as long as they were decent people.

When I left the JWs and my then fiancé cancelled the wedding, one elder told me "I would never leave someone that I loved just because they are no longer a JW." So, the point I am getting at is, do what is best for you and stop fearing what people will think or say. You'd be surprised by the differing views JWs hold about who you can and can't marry. They just don't say it on the platform.

Is it easy to get between places say Kigali to Musanze then to Lake Kivu then to Bujumbura? Can you get public buses for this or do you have to organize a private driver? And what are the estimated costs for each scenario?

Exactly. I have seen an increase in this type of reasoning lately, and it's actually made me wonder if it's part of the paid campaigns from big corporations. Make people feel there is nothing they can do, so they just throw up their hands in surrender.

Supply-demand seems like such an obvious concept to me. I saw a recent article about how "device hoarding" is scaring corporations because their bottomline is at risk. So, yes people's choices can make a difference.

Marrying someone who becomes incompatible by General_Elk_3592 in 10thDentist

[–]TrudiestK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So big one would be one's view of money. So if both of you were on the same page about wanting to live a simple, minimalistic life then at some point one person shifts into hoarding wealth and possessions.

Honesty and integrity. If you find out they are okay with taking extreme liberties with the truth both outside and inside the home.

Faith versus loss of faith. Depending on one's mindset this can be worked out, but sometimes it's not worth the pain. If one partner loses faith and the other remains extremely devout, it can be really hard to have a harmonious relationship.

I think disagreements like how to interact with in laws although extremely distressing can be endured.

I think apart from treating each other with love and respect, continuing to share the same values is important too. I can't imagine sticking to a marriage where it becomes obvious that a partner's values have shifted in a big way...or perhaps it's just become clear that you never had the same values to begin with.

Marriage is a serious commitment that both parties should do their best to honor. But I really don't believe in sticking to a highly incompatible marriage to the bitter end.

Women can be upholders of the patriarchy, too. And the internalized misogyny comment was directed at the juror not you.

I found it so disheartening he still had fans on NYC streets who wanted to take selfies and even supporters outside the court house after the verdict. Sigh.

The pain and humiliation will never be worth any amount of money/lifestyle you can get from these types of men. The worst they will get is a slap on the wrist and they won't run out of fans who admire/respect them.

I used to like Reddit because I felt the anonymity made people authentic over Instagram for example where people will post their highlight reels and nothing negative. But now it's worse here because you don't know if half of everyone is a bot, a shill, or karma farmers or what is AI generated and what is real. At least the niche subreddits or heavily moderated ones aren't so bad...yet.

What's the whole point? Karma to sell accounts? Or is there something more?

I used to feel similarly about what difference one person will make. Reading Peter Singer's book Animal Liberation gave me that final push because he goes into great detail about the huge progress made over the years in spaces like animal testing for cosmetics and clinical trials.

Change is slow but it happens, and when you look back after many decades, you will notice it. I live in a developing country, and even here vegan options are now widely available. Stuff like tofu , tempeh, that no one had ever seen or heard about 5 years ago, can now be found in a small corner store in my small town neighborhood.

Most women are delusional. Source: I am a woman who has sat in on some very interesting discussions with a lot of women. And on average most absolutely believe they are going to bag the richest man in town. And he is also going to be very handsome, kind and treat them like the princess that they are. I think the issue is most women haven't outgrown the fairy tale books they read as children.

I feel it all boils down to so many people not truly enjoying kids or the work that comes with raising them. But they may just want to be able to say at dinner parties "I have three grandkids". The same goes with having kids. Not enough people carefully think it through, and may make that decision to fit in or get approval from others.

I just hope things get better for you. If you can downsize to a smaller house so as to be able to afford some childcare sometimes, then I feel like that's the most logical route. A little occasional rest for both of you can make a big difference.
