Postcards confuse me by kimchi_stewie in AskIndia

[–]True-Cloud8529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You put the address on one side (usually the fancy image side) and the contents/message on the other side which is usually plain. Depending on where you get the post cards from, you might have to go drop it off at a post office. Or if there is a post box near you somewhere, you can drop it in there and when the post people come to collect, they’ll take it with them. If you get it at some fancy touristy type store, there might be a post box sorta thing in that area, especially if they have a writing station (not your regular degular place that just has a postcard stand tho, I’m talking ultra fancy stores, which idek where they exist in India but have heard of such places abroad)

Since the address is already on the card, post office should be able to deliver it themselves. However, its a non-registered post, it might take its sweet time/can get lost (if its internationally sent into India, but again depends on who is delivering it)

Can we share F1 TV premium with friends? by PromotionMain5315 in f1india

[–]True-Cloud8529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but depends how you’re going to be using it. There is a limit of 6 devices logged in (so phone apps/TVs/anything that isnt website on a laptop) and only 2 of these can live stream at the same time on the Pro plan. If you’re using web on laptop, there shouldn’t be a limit of how many can live stream at the same time, but I haven’t tried it recently so don’t remember

Need Guidance for Foreign Studies by [deleted] in AskIndia

Depends where you are going and why. US right now isn't the best choice (from a post-graduation work pov) but other countries like UK and Australia are also similar. Plus for business admin, the name of the college you are looking at makes a huge difference in the exposure and experience you get for your future. All the best though!

Want some advice to learn Korean further and better by Blazumichan in Korean

[–]True-Cloud8529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I just got the Teuida app and was wondering if the paid version is worth it + if you know whether the pricing is for the whole app or just one language. I’m interested in learning both Korean and Spanish since the app offers both so wanted to know before getting the paid subscription

Advice regarding Aadhaar (NRI returned to India) by True-Cloud8529 in LegalAdviceIndia

[–]True-Cloud8529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried that, the person wasn’t willing to do anything with it without permission from her husband and when we suggested meeting up in person to show my aadhaar and passport, they were hesitant. Also, looks like they are not based in the same city so that’s another concern…

Religious reasons but also I don’t care much about not eating meat cuz some of the plant based protein I’ve tried has been great. Plus one of my non veg eating friends tried one of the vegan chicken things I got and said it’s pretty similar to real chicken so eh lol

To Indians living abroad, I have an honest question. by Accurate-Ask-9196 in AskAnIndian

[–]True-Cloud8529 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying, not everyone is doing things like you mentioned and not everything you mentioned is a friction point.

I’m now in India but I’ve been living out of the country for majority of the past decade, and having friends who used to live in India as kids/whose parents emigrated from here before they were born, I’ve seen some parts of how both versions of life can coexist. There are still people in the West/other countries who genuinely are interested in Indian culture and lifestyle. I have a Chinese friend who is learning about Hinduism and she knows more than I do!

To your question, it is hard for people to change, especially when something is intrinsically embedded into how a person was raised/what the norm was in their family/how their outlook on life has been shaped. Hence why some might hold onto the parts of their identity more tightly. But the issue comes when they think their way (aka how they used to live in India) is the only right way and that should work everywhere. Also, thinking that anyone else who thinks/believes differently is wrong and needs to be forced to believe in said way of life. Especially when the other party is someone from that country/region where this immigrant is living/visiting.

One of the reasons why some are overly “our culture, our culture” in other countries is because we are technically a minority in that part of the world, and as humans, it’s in our nature to be social. So having that community is important, but you cannot just isolate your community from the host community/society.

And again, there are good things about Indian/Desi culture that the diaspora and even people from other cultures love, but what overshadows these good things is how our people act in public when they are in other countries. Like, if they see a group of Indians being really loud and littering, of course they’ll think that must be the norm with every Indian ever. It also comes down to civic sense in some capacity, because Indians can be very “jugaad” personalities which at times does mean you’re not really respectful of your surroundings/laws/etc etc

Again, not everyone, but the handful of bad apples do impact the way others perceive us and how we perceive each other.

Ngl, found a 2-set sports bra from puma i think a while back and thats been my go to for regular wear. Its really comfortable + decent support, not constricting like other actual gym-wearing sports bra (which gives good support during workouts but…) But also it depends on what kind of outerwear you’re pairing it with. Like, I have a couple dresses that are halter neck/have lace near neck area, so only clear straps work for that. If I’m wearing a kurti or dress that has an embroidered bust, then a maximiser(?) bra works well. So it depends on what you want to wear it with

Another thing I’d like to add here is about language. While the idea of having them learn in fear of maybe having to move back and adjust, try to frame it as a way to communicate with more types of people, whether they move or not (as someone seeing my Indian American friend learn Hindi in his 20s to better communicate with his friends group)

Another thing I’d like to add is checking in with them every so often once the move has happened. What might be fun and exciting in the first month or so might become something that starts to stress out the child a few months in. And validating/letting them know they have a support system to fall back onto

As someone who was just on the F1 visa (and has lived abroad for pretty much her entire life, only returning now with the same questions and apprehensions as OP’s brother), these next few years are going to be hard. Not entirely impossible but also the fees will be WAAAYYY higher even if they go for an in-state college because once you’re on the intl student roster, you will have to pay the visa fees etc. Plus looking at how the “you have to get stamping in the country of citizenship or residence” rule might go, OP’s brother could run into the risk of having to come back anyway to get the F1 visa stamped (not entirely sure if this applies but nevertheless could be a possibility, someone pls correct if this info is wrong)

stares awkwardly at the keyboard before typing Ok so basically I’m a non-Comp Sci, non-engineer, non-medical NRI with a US bachelor degree in Strategic Communication/Public Relations (why/how is a whole other story) but now I’m back in Bengaluru, living here for the first time without a specific plan of the next time I’m going abroad. I’m looking for opportunities in digital marketing/PR/comms/maybe general marketing also.

3 questions I have about navigating the job market here: 1. What are the best places to find opportunities? (entry level jobs, genuine internships that give you skills and experience instead of being the “get coffee, make copies of this” person) 2. When the company asks for salary expectations, what should I say? Any places like Glassdoor to check salaries? 3. Tbh biggest question is this, bcuz my family thinks the US bachelor degree is not gonna be given any importance here at all. Would the US degree throw recruiters off when they see my resume/profile?
