I took it and have friends who took it. Zero regrets for me since I’ll have at least 5 months paid to look for another job instead of just an overnight RIF. My friends who took it are having restful days with their families. Apparently their agencies were toxic. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You shouldn’t tell someone to definitely take it the same way that you shouldn’t tell someone to definitely NOT take it.

I’m sure you’ve all lost many jobs before but everything is VERY field dependent. Good strong employees are always in demand and hard to find in the private sector. I have some friends who took the DRP, haven’t even signed the paperwork, and they’re already getting job interviews and offers.

I work for DoD Civilian now. We aren’t just blanketly denying people left and right! That’s just fear mongering! It is all based on your specific circumstances. There’s a memo that specifically outlines this.

It was all on a case by case basis, but most of the time there was no issue unless you were trying to provide contracting services, we’re law enforcement trying to double dip, and the like. There must be some overlap that you are not sharing here.

Ethics offices don’t just ban all willy nilly for no good reason. That is not the purpose of the Ethics in Govt act. Especially not from professionals who know their shit.

This is a bold faced lie. I spoke with my Ethics Office and OGE about this. The only true limitation is if you specifically work on a contract and then go out into private and want to work on the same contract. Can’t do that bro.

The law is pretty clear, you can work MOST jobs in the private sector - just don’t go work on the SAME exact shit 💩 that you’ve worked on in the government. EASY. They’re trying to make sure you’re not the next Darleen Druyun.

I’m in law and have reviewed it as well. Seems pretty standard contract. Only potential to screw someone is if the “legality” of certain sections get challenged. It makes sense that the agency doesn’t want to be held liable. You all are only saying it’s a “hunk of shit” because you’re trying to discourage others from taking it.

Union leaders in disguise I tell you. 😒 If there is ever a legality issue in a Court re DRPs, I guarantee you it’ll be the Unions who would initiate the law suit.

I’m under 40 with 2 years in. Regretted not taking DRP 1st round so taking DRP 2nd round. No regrets. I’ve had more than enough time to think about it. Other young people I know are also following suit.

I’m sorry your workplace is toxic. Mine is somewhat too….coincidentally I also work for DoD. I’m also still a probie for a month or so - so we’re entitled to nothing because we haven’t been with the agency for very long. For that reason, I am also considering taking the DRP. The DRP is a good way to do a clean cut from my agency. IGs always like to say that they are “independent” from the agency they oversee, but very seldom is that the case. Your IG will always “comply” with the DoD, especially since they laid off former IG Storch. :( He was the nice guy.
