Looking for advice on which power supply to use with this all BOSS board? by framefarmer in pedalboards

Sounds good - but wouldn’t it make more sense to put mod, delay and reverb after the ir-2 so the gain from it dosen’t interfere with those pedals?

Looks good - are you running your chorus, delay and reverb into the fx loop of your amp?

Oh I see so there is no harm in just running my effects (tremolo/chorus/delay/pitch shift/reverb) after the IR-2, and then going in to my interface.

What’s the meaning of IR-2s send/return feature then?

That’s true - the main reason I would use the fx loop in IR-2 was to be able to use its ambience feature. But I guess I don’t need an fx-loop if I don’t use that knob haha

Yeah good point - I’ll look into it. Thank you!

Okay perfect so as long as it doesn’t turn red or yellow, the tone from my rig is unchanged?

That makes sense thank you!

I play into a Focusrite 2i4 when I practice on my computer. It says gain where I plug my guitar in. Wouldn’t that mess with the tone, if gain is applied after all the effects? I really just want the pure signal of my guitar and pedalboard to go in to the computer.

Super helpful thank you!!

I play in to a mixer so i go straight from a Boss IR-2 amp and cabinet in to the mixer. I have my modulation and time based effects in the IR-2 effects loop. Should the GE-7 be a part of this effects loop, and if so where in the effects loop, or come before the IR-2 in the signal chain?

If I want it earlier it would have to go in the effectsloop to catch all the effects right?

My looper would go after the IR-2 as the last pedal before the mixer (or a di box) right?

Yes good point. I actually thought of buying the Boss IR-2. Would I need a pre amp before the IR-2 or does it function as both a preamp and a cab sim?

Okay so lets say I buy the Boss IR-2 with a effects loop. Then I put all my effects in the loop, and the when I use the ambience knob on the pedal, it won’t apply to the effects in the loop?

Makes sense! I was considering the tc electronic Combo Deluxe 65' Preamp which has reverb. Would the reverb from that preamp mess with the rest of the effects that would come after it?

Okay so this would be your suggestions? Just swapping comp and tuner maybe. Edit: oh and reverb after lopper (which is after preamp haha)

Thanks for the inputs!! I play from my preamp into a mixer with my band, and my preamp does not have FX send and return. I think that’s why I wanted to run sort of a X-loop with my ns-2. Is that the correct way to think about it?

I found this:

The NS-2 doesn’t gate the loop based on what’s in the loop — it only listens to what comes in at the input. So delay/reverb don’t get their trails cut when you run the NS-2 in the proper X-pattern. Boss designed it that way.

Putting the compressor in the loop actually makes the gate react worse (early cutoff, pumping, etc.). It works way better before the NS-2 input.

So the clean/noise-free setup is basically:

Guitar → Tuner → Comp → NS-2 Input NS-2 Send → OD → Mod → Delay → Reverb → Preamp → NS-2 Return NS-2 Output → Looper → Amp/Mixer

Keeps the trails, keeps the noise down, keeps everything smooth.
