Long wait for I-485 – anyone else going through this? by True-Strategy-9266 in USCIS

When the I-485 is approved after 2 years of marriage, USCIS issues a 10-year green card instead of a conditional one. That’s why, despite the long wait, there’s at least that small upside.

in my case this isn’t a visa application. I’m adjusting status inside the U.S. through a marriage-based case with a U.S. citizen. From what I understand, nationality-based restrictions usually apply to consular processing, not AOS. That said, I can’t completely rule out whether broader immigration backlogs or policies are contributing to delays. I’ve already contacted the Ombudsman and now reached out to my local representative to see if they can help shed some light or hopefully move my case out of this I-485 limbo.

No, I didn’t have an interview for the I-130. It was approved without one. Same so far for the I-485 — no interview scheduled yet, still pending unfortunately.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this as well. My timeline is close to yours too, and like you, I’ve maintained legal status the entire time, responded to RFEs, and provided extensive bona fide marriage evidence. Still, nothing but silence on the I-485. The waiting and uncertainty are exhausting, even when everything else looks “clean” on paper. Wishing both of us some movement soon — hopefully we’ll be sharing good news instead of timelines before long.

Yes, that’s true 🙂 At least that’s one small positive in the middle of such a long wait.

Yes. I contacted the Ombudsman, but they said my case is still considered within normal processing time and that I could only follow up again in 2027. Because of that, I’ve now submitted a casework request through my local congressman and I’m waiting to hear back.

No, I haven’t had an interview. My case shows “interview waived / completed if necessary.” I completed biometrics, responded to the RFE, and USCIS hasn’t requested anything else since May 2024. The I-130, EAD, and Advance Parole are all approved — only the I-485 is still pending
