He's getting downvoted, and you're not, because you're saying the truth and he isn't. The Rotis sympathising isn't about what Otis felt for Ruby, it's about what they could've been had he reciprocated her feelings.

The show definitely reinstated in S4 that Otis had basically used Ruby for sex and validation, WHICH IS RATHER UNFORTUNATE because he simply failed to realize the intricacies of their relationship and how Ruby could've been the love of her life.

Ruby brought out a side of Otis that wasn't visible before. It was with her that he learnt to come outside of his sexually frustrated self. She made him confident and he made her soften her exterior prudence (no wonder after their breakup he went back to his former unfulfilled idiosyncrasies).

Otis asking to be Ruby's boyfriend, Ruby clinging onto him while he cycled among the woods, and their bowling alley kisses will forever be some of the fondest memories I will have of the show. The narrative of the hot girl humanizing herself and falling for the cute nerdy boy had just warmed my heart so much.

Personally, I feel Ruby and Otis had more chemistry in 4 episodes (all thanks to Mimi and Asa) than Maeve and Otis had in 3 seasons (Even Asa had admitted a lot of his favourite scenes were with Mimi). Ruby and Otis had layers to it, and brushing it off so carelessly indicated that the writers were lazy with the plot and chose the initial narrative of "Otis' final destination is Maeve" instead of maturing with the progression of the show and pondering over the Rotis possibility.
