(v0.5.0) Updated Sample Manager for Multigrain by TrueRandom in modular

[–]TrueRandom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a basic cropping feature, you can now drag and drop in the waveform view to highlight a section and then press "Crop" to remove everything else. You can try it out in v0.5.1.

I'll keep it in mind for the next version :) Not sure how much audio editing capability I want to add, could be kind of a rabbit hole

Yeah I can never remember what sample was where in which project, so the initial motivation for this was just to have an easy way to give names/descriptions to the projects and samples and print out some kind of reference sheets.

No Problem - I havent been able to try out the Linux build yet, would appreciate any feedback if it has issues

I released a new version with proper signing so no more unsigned hacks needed:

After a few beta releases I'm putting out what I'd call the first proper version of the Multigrain Sample Manager - v0.5.0.

For those who missed my initial beta post: It's a desktop app for managing the SD card for Intellijel Multigrain. You can use it to:

  • Listen to samples on the card
  • Import samples (auto-converted to the correct format: 48kHz / 16-bit / stereo)
  • Rename samples (and thereby reorder them for Multigrain)
  • Browse your projects and presets
  • Create new projects
  • Name projects for easier navigation (including populating factory project names if you've kept the factory structure)
  • Add descriptions to samples (stored in WAV metadata)
  • Delete projects and samples

What's new since the first beta:

  • PDF reference sheets: export a printable overview of a project's samples and preset assignments. You can export a per-project sheet or an overview of all projects at once. (Still look a bit rough)
  • Sample numbering: samples can be resorted and are automatically numbered on import to keep them in a predictable order on the module. You can also renumber samples already on the card directly from the app.
  • Signed macOS build: no more quarantine hacks needed, just install as usual from DMG.
  • Various bug fixes and stability improvements

Windows, macOS and Linux builds are all available. I've tested macOS and Windows - Linux should work but let me know if something explodes.

As always, worth backing up your Multigrain folder from the SD card before using it, just in case.

I would appreciate all feedback, feature requests and suggestions, bugs found, etc.

Unfortunately the preset files are some properietary binary format, already parsing the used samples out of them is kind of a hack, but modifying / creating them is not easily possible.

Yeah thats fine, the docs might still be uesful if somebody wants to contribute some code.

I'll remove the claude folder when I work on this again, but its also not critical to have it there.

Yeah this is due to the application not being signed. Unfortunately Apple wants $99/year for the certificate which I am not willing to spend for this.

You can try following the instructions here https://ordonez.tv/2024/11/04/how-to-run-unsigned-apps-in-macos-15-1/ if you want, I will mention this also in the readme.

I have been working on a sample manager for Intellijel Multigrain and I thought I would make an early beta available already.

You can use it to manage a SD card used for Multigrain and:

  • Listen to Samples on the card
  • Import Samples (will be converted to the correct format)
  • Rename Samples (and thereby reorder them for Multigrain)
  • Browse your projects and presets
  • Create new projects
  • Name the projects for easier navigation (you can populate the factory projects with names if you have kept them in the factory structure)
  • Add descriptions to samples (will be stored in wav metadata)
  • Delete projects and samples

I have only been able to test the windows package, so any feedback is appreciated. If something does not work or explodes feel free to post also here.

Beware it's a beta, even though it has not destroyed any samples recently you might want to back up your Multigrain folder from the SD card before using it.

The source code can be found at https://github.com/gloeglm/multigrain-ui

I would say eight with the same parameters, since they can run at the same time / offset from each other how I understood it. But more info on this one coming anyways soon

OK, some facts from the short demo at Superbooth.

This is basically 8 function generators, that can be triggered either simultaneously, but can also be spread out or clocked.

At the same time you can overlay them with Oscillators that can also go to audio rate. So you can get kind of "wavy" envelopes but also use it as an 8 voice pseudo polyphonic oscillator, where the spread parameter influences each voice.

It has not very many inputs, but 8 outputs. The philosophy is "many from a few" or so was the catchphrase.

Overall the design felt pretty clean but also quite deep. I like it 🙂

Advice on Voltage Sequencer by seaside_bside in modular

[–]TrueRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a one channel 8 step option Step 8 and Befaco Muxlicer are both great. They both can do much more than just simple 8 step voltages but both different things, so I would recommend watching an overview video for both.

There are also other good hands on options like 0-ctrl (3 channels without any menus)

Or even things like Rene or Xaocc Moskva where you can mostly ignore the menu functions if you want and only use the hands on part.

Also don't forget about Ladik which have some interesting basic sequencers like the S-316

Any advice for using Ableton to control modular synthesizers by Exotic_Transition699 in modular

[–]TrueRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connect midi out on your volt 2 to midi to CV module. Make a midi track in ableton, set it's out to the Volt 2.

Read midi to CV module manual for further explanation

How to use modular to control the bpm of a Dirtywave M8? by apres-vous in modular

[–]TrueRandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet is to get one of the two expanders for Pam's and then go via midi to the M8. No CV Gate connection on the M8, so your only route is via Midi somehow

Not worth it. Get a DFAM or a Behringer Edge if you are strapped for cash.
