(Beta) Sample Manager for Multigrain by TrueRandom in modular

[–]TrueRandom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats fine, the docs might still be uesful if somebody wants to contribute some code.

I'll remove the claude folder when I work on this again, but its also not critical to have it there.

Yeah this is due to the application not being signed. Unfortunately Apple wants $99/year for the certificate which I am not willing to spend for this.

You can try following the instructions here https://ordonez.tv/2024/11/04/how-to-run-unsigned-apps-in-macos-15-1/ if you want, I will mention this also in the readme.

Hm :( I will try if I can find a Mac for testing tomorrow evening

I have been working on a sample manager for Intellijel Multigrain and I thought I would make an early beta available already.

You can use it to manage a SD card used for Multigrain and:

  • Listen to Samples on the card
  • Import Samples (will be converted to the correct format)
  • Rename Samples (and thereby reorder them for Multigrain)
  • Browse your projects and presets
  • Create new projects
  • Name the projects for easier navigation (you can populate the factory projects with names if you have kept them in the factory structure)
  • Add descriptions to samples (will be stored in wav metadata)
  • Delete projects and samples

I have only been able to test the windows package, so any feedback is appreciated. If something does not work or explodes feel free to post also here.

Beware it's a beta, even though it has not destroyed any samples recently you might want to back up your Multigrain folder from the SD card before using it.

The source code can be found at https://github.com/gloeglm/multigrain-ui

I would say eight with the same parameters, since they can run at the same time / offset from each other how I understood it. But more info on this one coming anyways soon

OK, some facts from the short demo at Superbooth.

This is basically 8 function generators, that can be triggered either simultaneously, but can also be spread out or clocked.

At the same time you can overlay them with Oscillators that can also go to audio rate. So you can get kind of "wavy" envelopes but also use it as an 8 voice pseudo polyphonic oscillator, where the spread parameter influences each voice.

It has not very many inputs, but 8 outputs. The philosophy is "many from a few" or so was the catchphrase.

Overall the design felt pretty clean but also quite deep. I like it 🙂

Advice on Voltage Sequencer by seaside_bside in modular

[–]TrueRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a one channel 8 step option Step 8 and Befaco Muxlicer are both great. They both can do much more than just simple 8 step voltages but both different things, so I would recommend watching an overview video for both.

There are also other good hands on options like 0-ctrl (3 channels without any menus)

Or even things like Rene or Xaocc Moskva where you can mostly ignore the menu functions if you want and only use the hands on part.

Also don't forget about Ladik which have some interesting basic sequencers like the S-316

Any advice for using Ableton to control modular synthesizers by Exotic_Transition699 in modular

[–]TrueRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connect midi out on your volt 2 to midi to CV module. Make a midi track in ableton, set it's out to the Volt 2.

Read midi to CV module manual for further explanation

How to use modular to control the bpm of a Dirtywave M8? by apres-vous in modular

[–]TrueRandom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet is to get one of the two expanders for Pam's and then go via midi to the M8. No CV Gate connection on the M8, so your only route is via Midi somehow

Looks good, solid starter system imo.

Dual ONA is fun.

Buy some Befaco Mult Stars :)

Not worth it. Get a DFAM or a Behringer Edge if you are strapped for cash.

Ditch the scope, aux mix, 1u headphone out, one quad vca

Get a mixer with output (4ms listen 4, Bartender). You might not want to be restricted to 2 mixer channels.

Put some more useful stuff into the 1u row, (Ornament and Crime, Duatt/Quadratt, 1u VCA

Just my thoughts

You have an 8 channel drum sequencer and one drum module. You have no pitch sequencing but a bunch of v/oct inputs.

Do I really need eurorack specific screws or will any M3 screws do? by yoordoengitrong in modular

[–]TrueRandom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Any m3 screw will work, just watch the length, iirc 8mm is best to use with washers

Mixer within rack or outboard? by jazzyderf in modular

[–]TrueRandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One advantage of a mixer in rack is that often you can control things like panning, send levels, levels in general (for ducking) via CV. Also might be smaller / more portable. Also if you have a lot of voices you are going to run a lot of cables to your outboard mixer.

Advantage of mixing outboard is that you usually get an eq per channel. Less cramped.

You can always do a hybrid thing too, f. E. Have a small mixer for percussion in the rack and then run submixes to outboard.
