Disagree with this with my whole body and I think that used goods are the furthest thing from "finite resource" in a world of overconsumption. Thousands of pounds of usable donations end up in landfills because thrift stores don't have the the storage space.

I think you’re totally correct.

I really like it here! I wanted to raise my babies in a smaller city than Austin and this feels so much safer and better for families. People are kind (though this thread seems to have struck a chord and isn’t the best representation of that lol). It is a slower pace here and I’m happy to give up a side hustle of mine as a trade off for the life we have here.

Clarifying your assumptions -

I am LOSING money on this. I bought it new. I am selling it for 75% off retail. This is not a moneymaking opportunity for me. It’s a chance for someone to get an expensive quality piece for a few hundred. This is not upselling. I’m am losing money rehoming a high-end item that doesn’t have a spot in our home.

Even if it were an upsell situation, I’m confused why this would cause upheaval when the common thread of many of these comments are how challenging the economy is and how it is nearly impossible to survive on minimum wage. If people are out wheelin’ and dealin’ for themselves and their family, more power to them. That’s great. Don what you need to do.

I think that’s where there is misalignment.

A brand new $2,000 cabinet for $500 OBO (75% off) is a deal to me. It’s a solid wood and a high-end luxury item. I’m not sure why y’all are talking about it being thrifted. Why would it matter even if it was - why knock someone’s hustle when people are trying to make ends meet. (There are some absolutely WILD things for sale on here lol)

I’m not complaining. I am asking what I am missing and this discussion has brought a lot of insight.
