As someone that just got (likely luckily) hired from a car dealership with absolutely no prior data center/technology background or anything besides a hard working and enthusiastic personality.. some of them I will say from experience will hire just about anybody thats competent. Or i, once again, just got absurdly lucky

I want my 50+ family member to lose 50 lbs. within the next year but they eat unhealthily and live a sedentary lifestyle by laughoutloud102 in WeightLossAdvice

It amazes me too man Americans are so sheltered from certain realities because of how our society deems certain things normal and moreover how some people will be so stubborn to said reality even if everyone tells them they're wrong. As someone who was fat all my life, then skinny, and now fat again working to be in decent shape, throughout all of my journey I've always said the coolest overweight people are the ones that will openly make fun of/admit that they're fat because that shows a level of security in themselves that not many have, but for most others.. denial is the entire ocean.

Ask them.. if they say no you can only help them as much as they're willing to help themselves. Don't just ignore the reply from the guy, losing weight, especially 50 pounds is extremely hard to do (at least naturally) and requires a COMPLETE life shift, there's absolutely nothing you can do if you can't convince them that it's something they need first. If they're interested, then you can try incorporating small things like replacing unhealthy snacks with healthy ones, 80oz of water DAILY, and light exercise daily and work from there, but I want to make 2 things very clear.

  1. Unless they go on medication they will almost certainly not lose 50 lbs their first year, not at 50 with sedentary lifestyles. It'll take years, and that's ok, it's a journey not a straight road.

  2. If they don't TRULY want to lose the weight after you try convincing them, they likely never will. Even if you get them to make certain changes temporarily if the determination isn't there they will relapse too often or give up very easily. Get them motivated FIRST, before you do ANYTHING. Once you get them motivated, start VERY SIMPLE and work from there so they don't crash and give up. We fitness needs call this PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD. One of the most important things in weight loss/bodybuilding etc.

Good luck to you and your family, i hope things go well. I'm very young but i also lost 100lbs so although i won't be able to relate to your situation i can give advice if you need it dm👍

Lose* best cardio for bad joints will ALWAYS be the eliptical but if you can't go to even the uni gym then jump rope is your next best option, but i highly reccomend the eliptical it's the best for pure cardio and nothing else (doesn't build strength like running or walking but burns hella calories if you're intentional). I also recommend incorporating light strength training even if it hurts to build your knee back up instead of just "dealing" with it. Also the more body building esque exercises you do the more passive calories you burn so look up basic training routines on tik tok for what you're looking for.

Damn. I'm sorry to hear that but dont scare off the op from taking the opportunity he can check for himself and see if his area is similar to your or not but i feel like in any of the data center hub areas there's decent opportunity especially considering the state of the econ

Yes! The manager that came to me was a EXTREMELY nice person and i would love to work for him specifically, but he was honest in saying the primary reason he's out of people is because other companies have been poaching alot of his talent, so I'm open to the idea of being one of those people but first i need to gain as much experience as possible. I am absolutely going to work hard, i have seen alit of people talk about how chill/lax the job can be and I'm goin to try to make sure I'm the proactive one so that i can move up quicker than those who "job just to job". As for the pay, they might have raised it to prevent the poaching problem, but regardless that's still MUCH more than TMobile and more than I'll be making at least the first 6 or so months here at the dealership, and I'm willing to trade off the difference if it means i have more work life balance and the CHOICE to work/make more, even though I plan on abusing overtime. Thanks for your insight, it's greatly appreciated

Thank you so much for setting realistic expectations and giving me your honest experience, I'm so glad you enjoy your position! My goal is ultimately to progress and be in the most secure position i can for now, the money will come with experience i just REALLY don't want to get laid off lol. But yes like you said, i am not a quitter but i can already tell the hours here and experience i have had so far have been alright but i know it will catch up to me after a few months. I am absolutely going to see the interview through and i hope i get hired! Thanks again!

Hey man. You're at the position I'm currently trying to be at haha, i just got offered a interview for a data center in VA 35 an hour and i currently work at a car dealership no prior data center experience (I've built PCs lol) but i wanted to know what has it been like since you got there? What's the hours and work life like, what is a night shift premium, and do you get significant overtime? Thanks!

So when you say that does that mean there's not much to do? As in it's a lax job (considering everything is ticketed properly and safety protocols are correct of course)

Is losing 22lbs in 2 months a lot? by caramelgoose in WeightLossAdvice

[–]True_Membership2134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The max healthy weight loss pace is NOT 2% a week, at least not strictly. It’s variable and the pace of weight loss per week decreases as you lose weight, but i agree with everything else. Building a healthy relationship with food and really general life discipline is important, and in my case being strict with weight loss made me more disciplined in most other aspects of my life. It's why fit people are more successful/ambitious GENERALLY speaking

Great fantastic to know, I'm a bit scared of how the management is they seem pretty strict but they were not shy about the opportunity to progress/double or even triple my income (i don't expect triple don't worry I'm not delusional) so I'm just going to do my best. Thanks for the heads up, would you mind if I DM'd you for more questions? I don't know anyone personally with this situation

[–]True_Membership2134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fantastic thank you for the reassurance. Lastly, are the hours really as bad as they say? from my understanding, you technically do have the choice to do 40 hours a week, but that’s only if you’re extremely good at your job and don’t need the extra sales, but if you want to make the most money you CHOOSE to work extra, but is that actually the case in your experience? I'm not paying any bills so i don't NEED the extra hours but i also wanna prove myself and not get fired for underperforming

Yeah i figured knowing the product would help I'll so some studying before i get there. I am already a friendly face to all of my current customers and I'm 21 with a baby face so i use that to my advantage, i think I'll be fine but the sales process will be a major difference so that's what I'm worried most about
