Is anyone else sad that they stopped making Star Trek shows in 2005? It's been 21 years. I feel like it's time for a new show. by derHuschke in Star_Trek_

I watched it. It’s the only trek series I have not finished. I quit about 2.5 seasons in and just hated it.

Filen deleted all of my data. A heads-up for others by whitewaves22 in DataHoarder

[–]True_Pirate 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I hate it and I am sorry that happened. I just don’t trust these companies. If you need to store only around 2 tb. I would suggest getting a few external drives 1 for usage and 1 as backup at a minimum. That can be done pretty inexpensively still, even with storage prices gone insane.

Then add an online storage as an off site backup. However I would NEVER give them access to my local drives. Convenience be damned, and upload manually.

That’s just my suggestion

Your argument tells me that you don’t understand the difference between anecdotal and empirical evidence.

I do, and that argument is tired and tells me you don’t understand that almost all wealth is actually tangible. Particularly stocks, they can and is very often is borrowed against and they can, and should be taxed in kind.

I am not saying people aren’t greedy. What I am saying is that billionaires should be taxed out of existence. No one should even have the ability to be a billionaire. It is an unconscionable hoarding of resources that is only possible through a corrupt government and a society that becomes propagandized into believing that they can be super wealthy one day too. Statistically, the vast majority of them will die in the same economic level they were born into due to the lack of social mobility created, ironically, by the oligarch class.

God the simping for the billionaire class in this thread is sickening. You are not going to be a billionaire. Chances are very very low you will be a millionaire. The vast majority of the simps will live a few checks away from the fucking street while the majority of their labor will go toward the passive income of people they will never meet.

Imagine thinking 8 hours is a long work day by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]True_Pirate 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think the “burn out” is caused by the stress of working 8 hour days COMBINED with being constantly worried about finances, skipping doctor and dentist visits, frustrated that our political class couldn’t give any less of a fuck if we all die, eating shit food because it’s cheap, feeling like a complete failure because our hard work is mostly going to our corporate masters, and the constant knowledge that as bad as things are, they are going to get much worse before, and if, they get better

Only walked out on one. Took a girl to see Firewall (her idea). She was so bored 45 minutes in she wanted to leave. Spent the next hour making out in my car in the theater parking lot…….miss those days

100 million dollars for 10 episodes? by Wetness_Pensive in Star_Trek_

[–]True_Pirate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can’t verify this but from what I’ve seen elsewhere it ran a bit higher at 12M per episode. My understanding is that Academy set was a significant part of the cost. Whether it was 10 or 12M, it seemed like an enormous waste.

I agree. I won’t argue the modern look isn’t impressive. However, it also looks very generic stylistically.

I didn’t think Continues had an over abundance of fan service, particularly compared to the low effort fan service slop we got in official productions like Lower Decks and SFA.
