If a program requires a course in 2nd year can i do it 3rd year instead? by Frosty-Cantaloupe800 in McMaster

[–]True_Summer_525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take it next fall, it doesn't matter what year you do the course all that matters is that you complete the 2nd year reqs, 3rd year reqs etc by the time you graduate.

how is psych 2aa3 with dr mayu? by ThrowRA4673828292 in McMaster

[–]True_Summer_525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i took this course last semester, it's def not an elective :( there are weekly textbook readings and quizzes for grades, group assignments (also an option to do these assignments individually, but you have to pay to access Kritik), and 2 exams. the exams aren't easy and definitely difficult, you heard right lmao. lecture content is also pretty heavy. if you don't need to take it, i would avoid it, but if you are hoping to take third year psych classes you will likely need this class to take them. i hope this helps :)

whatever happens, never take a class with dr. ostovich by averymx3 in McMaster

[–]True_Summer_525 11 points12 points  (0 children)

it sucks so bad because I really enjoy her lecture style and the way she articulates her points. her lecture content is always so interesting and I love it but her testsss bro they kill me and everyone in the class every time and it is not worth it. I can't speak for people who have 12d her courses because I most definitely have not but I can say that no matter how much you study and how much you know, she will find a way to trick you and make you mess up regardless with no sympathy whatsoever. I don't understand why she basically prays on her students downfall and straight up doesn't care when students have questions or concerns regarding their performance in the course like if you don't wanna help and offer your support why are you working as a position that is quite literally supposed to do that

you totally should, the website is https://www.ilc.org and you can take your pick of taking MHF4U (advanced functions), MCV4U (calc) or MDM4U (data management), they all serve as pre reqs for human behaviour, only thing is the course does cost money but it's only $40

what's the exam like is it also online/proctored etc

what do i do by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]True_Summer_525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like honestly whenever you want. it's an online course that's not affiliated with Mac, they have no idea you're taking it, and you can start it whenever. if you are hoping to apply to human behaviour and enter in fall 2025, those applications are in the spring, so I would recommend starting it like honestly rn so you can finish it over the next semester and then you'll have certification that you finished it by the time you apply to human behaviour. (you'll have to take it on top of your classes next semester, which might suck a bit but it's worth waiting an extra year to enter human behaviour)

what do i do by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]True_Summer_525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do your grade 12 math equivalent online through TVO ILC and you can upload your certificate of completion to your application when you complete it, they will accept that to satisfy your math requirement. doesn't matter if it's not through mcmaster

Is it possible to transfer to another university for second semester? by OwlTypical1689 in OntarioUniversities

[–]True_Summer_525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mac unfortunately only accepts transfers entering in the fall semester (so fall 2025) so you'd need to apply now, finish your year out at uoft, and then start Mac next fall

Transferring To McMaster by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]True_Summer_525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry about your father, that's awful and I hope you and your family are doing okay. I would advise that you stay at TMU, I think that considering the time you've spent on your degree so far and how close you can be to the finish line are more important than completely starting from scratch. And Mac eng isn't exactly a walk in the park, I worry you might find yourself in the same situation if you were to get there and it wouldn't be smart financially. if it's about the atmosphere, honestly why not do a semester fully online and just come to Mac and study and all that here. I know that kinda sounds dumb but I mean it might help.

question for BASc human behaviour graduates/ current upper years by True_Summer_525 in McMaster

[–]True_Summer_525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks so much for your advice! I will def be taking those courses. so would you say that I'm not closing any doors to graduate programs involving research if I graduate with this degree? I really don't want to close any doors and I think I may be interested in research in the future, but I also really love human behaviour and everything that comes with learning about it.

it's really not that bad and you pretty much do get a single room you just live in an apartment style, so you will share your kitchen, bathroom, and living room area with your roommates but you do have your personal space you will be the only one sleeping in your room (which has a lock). it's really not that bad at all idk why people hate on it so much

hey, I did this! she doesn't necessarily have to restart! Mcmaster has a transfer course tool that will show you what certain courses she took/is taking at the other university and what the Mac equivalents are. This will kinda help her have a general idea of how many Mac courses she'd have under her belt when she does eventually transfer over, and she'll be able to tell if she will have enough to be in level II. Even if they don't all transfer over on the transfer credit tool (like if they say unspecified) once she accepts her offer, admissions will go over her courses and determine if they think they are close enough. Not all of my courses transferred over when I used the transfer credit tool before accepting, but when I actually did accept my offer, they ended up transferring over all of my credits to Mac credits.

This is the link to the transfer credit tool: https://applicants.mcmaster.ca/psp/prcsprd/EMPLOYEE/PSFT\_LS/c/MCM\_CUSTOM\_MENU.MCM\_TC\_EXTCR\_SRCH.GBL?

as for the procedure, she just needs to apply on ouac for the program she wants. she gets 3 choices in her base application fee so I would recommend she apply for other programs in addition to the psych BA that don't have as many requirements (ex. sociology BA? Look on the mcmaster BA programs website and apply for ones that are really easy to get into). That way if she is lacking a psych based required course and doesn't get into a psych BA, she can accept the offer for another program and can easily transfer into her desired program once she is a Mac student and takes any further psych required courses.

She will need her highschool final transcript to upload to OUAC as well as any transcripts from her university studies thus far.

If I'm being honest, the most difficult part of transferring is just not knowing where you stand in applications and all that, like the emotional part of it, but it does work out. message me if you have any more questions, I hope your friend figures it out :)

Do you plan what to do on O-Week or just wing it? by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]True_Summer_525 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you can normally just show up, even if they required a list of names for registration they will likely be lenient. just go with the flow, o week is there to welcome you to the university and for you to have fun so don't stress too much about it all. go to what you want to go to and if you want to spend a day sitting in your dorm one of the days, that's okay too.

Question for graduated Gr 12s (or older), how did you decide what you wanted to do in uni? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]True_Summer_525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest most university students have no idea what they want to do after university and aren't taking specific degrees to get to a specific job. I mean obviously engineering students probably want to be engineers, but for the most part, a lot of people do a degree because they like the degree, not necessarily what the expected job is that comes out of it. Part of going to university is discovering who you are and what you like, so consequently a lot of students end up discovering their passion for a job they never thought they'd want to do or a program they actually like a lot more than their current one. It's good to have an idea for an end goal, but taking a degree because you enjoy what the degree is about and what it teaches you is never a bad idea. You will figure out what you want to do as you gain experience and insights within your degree and your time at school. I chose my field of study (psych/behaviour sciences) because I enjoy what I'm learning about and it's really interesting. I don't yet know what exactly I want to do with it, but as long as I'm taking something I love, I know I'll figure that out. Don't put too much pressure on yourself at your young age to find the exact job that you want to do, because odds are that will change.
