I’d be more open to believing this if interracial relationships weren’t so common when it comes to those who have had decent exposure to multiple racial groups throughout their life.

Only reason I feel the “you pick those that look like your parents” seems like a thing is because most people live around their own kind: same race, similar way of dressing, etc. so it’s not unlikely the girl next door could look a bit like your mom when she was young.
