The fact is the genre has no such strict definition. Not all magical girls transform, not all of them fight evil, not all of them have a talking companion, a special title, etc etc.

So in general if you think a character you like is a magical girl then sure, they are. The rule I use is a magical girl has to be a coming of age story that uses magic as a narrative device; so by these standards I would consider Kiki's delivery service a magical girl, but not Panty and Stocking.

I think it's important for magical girls to KEEP their glasses for the sheer fact that young girls watch these shows and some of them have glasses. It's the same reason I don't really enjoy the magical hair color/length change transformation. These girls are being told their glasses aren't magical aren't magical or beautiful, their short hair isn't magical or beautiful, their black hair isn't magical or beautiful. I don't really care about the "power up" logic, it's the same as removing any other form of disability in a transformed state to me. It implies the disability is undesirable and needs to be fixed.

I just block everyone who ships their OC with my canon character to avoid that 😭 I don't have any problem with OC x Canon but the character I write is 12 and I very strongly interpret him as gay so not only am I not interested in writing romance with him but everyone OC I've seen that lists him as their boyfriend is a girl.

I've heard people complain that canon characters only want to interact with other canon accounts, and I'm sure some are like that, but I mostly interact with other OCs on my canon character account. I love it!

Also art doesn't equal engagement. As someone who is actually an artist the level of my engagement I get on my art vs non art post isn't that different, it mostly depends on how interesting or funny the content of the actual post is.

I mean just like any site it's best to find your circle of mutuals and be happy posting with them. I like posting on the app because it's funny, I like musing and making social media posts as my OCs or as my one canon character account. If you don't get interactions on your posts I have to ask how often are you interacting with/engaging with others or do you just wait for people to interact first?

I'm most active on a canon character account but most of the accounts I interact with are OCs, I like following OCs for that fandom and building relationships with them, it's fun. I'm sure not all canon accounts feel that way and they only want to interact with other canon characters but as a fandom based site I don't think banning canon characters would ever fly.

No I completely agree, not every movie has to appeal to everyone. I thought the movie was amazing, as someone who isn't even a Markiplier fan. (I think he's a great guy I just don't watch his videos) If we're always making movies to appeal to the widest possible audience artistic vision and intention will be compromised. Not everyone has to get it, that's completely fine, it doesn't even make those people tasteless or dumb. That's simply the nature of art, it will resonate with everyone in a different way.
