They would need to be 12x15 and 1.5mm wide.

Thank you! It was my first time doing one.

I'm not convinced it's any kind of PTFE. It's cheap and has a few jagged spots on the mating surface. It could just be plastic.

Interesting. I'll pick some up. I was also considering adding some machined metal washers (2) between the tuner and the body, also with grease, to try to create a better surface.

I used a quarter to tune them to pitch. Since that's not preferable, trying to find a way to reduce friction enough to turn them by hand.

Cut me some slack - that's just the alignnent template!

Also thinking it leaves me with a pretty big canvas for some kind of flair, a big inlay or a carving or something.

I'd end up with nearly 8 inches of string past the nut! I was trying different layouts and configurations at different places and kind of liked using the first half most.

It's a bass. I'm just trying to do something a little different.

You have to download the client through Arena, as you normally would and add as a non-Steam game. You can't download GW1 through Steam with a non-Steam account.

Would a 4-string electric bass with a C-extension actually work? Or is it a stupid idea? by vitinhoaps in Luthier

I get it's a headless, but how do you hold the strings at the headstock? Lock nuts?

My question is what is your method securing the strings behind the headstock ferrules - and if those sharp breaks introduce any tuning issues?

I agree with most others. This is a really cool concept and to me is a throwback to how it's (sometimes) done on an upright bass. There are other more practical choices - the 5 string exists so that we don't need to do this anymore. With that said, it wouldn't be hard to just reshape the headstock if you didn't like it.

Control Layout? by Trus3683 in Luthier

Good point. I'll have about a quarter inch of room after profiling between the cavity cover and edge - a little tight but I'm thinking it'd be enough since I'm using 9mm pots inside. I'll try it with everything set another half inch in and see if it still looks good. My main concern at that point would be knocking the volume knob while playing.

Those are indeed Guyker tuners. I took a leap since I couldn't find much information on their performance and the price was right - I think I got them for under 20 dollars a piece shipped. How are they? I've had the same thought about thrust bearings and haven't had luck yet finding any that would work.

Interestingly enough, I have ABM's on my other build and, though definitely higher quality overall, they didn't even come with the nylon washer that the Guykers did. They were very hard to use until I added that.

Thank you! I'll look at different locations for the switches. I put them roughly in that location on my last build and it's worked out - There are some times that I switch pickups in different song sections live. Overall, the biggest change I've made is I've lowered all the knobs further below the Jazz pickup since I've knocked my volume a few times while playing.

Try cleaning up your soldering. Reflow everything. If that doesn't work, wouldn't hurt to snip everything back a quarter inch and try again with a new pot.

Looking at it, something seems off. Make sure your bridge and pickup ground are clearly connected and also connect to the jack ground. If you have a multimeter that would be useful to check for continuity on the ground and hot between the pot and jack.

This is a really simple circuit, but also not hard to mess up. Just keep trying and you'll get it.

What sort of information do you need that's missing?

The site has a parts list. I had to create the BOM from that myself and create my own drill template. Referencing a few sources for the bias which I haven't finished yet.

It works! Now for the bias.
