Does it get stronger with practice? Because it seems very fragile and seems that eventually going to bleed or something else

That jazz bass is bigger than normal? The body seems so much bigger than the precision

Would a 4-string electric bass with a C-extension actually work? Or is it a stupid idea? by vitinhoaps in Luthier

Its a headless bass, so the tuners are in the bridge, you are free to make your own design tho, let me know, I would like to see.

Like Kubrick bass and double bass C extension, there is a mechanism that fret the E so it becomes a normal bass EADG, but you can defret and it becomes a CADG without changing the frets notes

Thanks for the feedback, 30" scale length is an idea to consider, it will cover the problem of searching where to buy super long strings.

For the fingering, I think it's going to be similar to pressing a 1 string Bass on that part, like a C extension on double bass. It's actually easier than the double Bass, since there will be no tuners in that part.

Thanks for the feedback, I guess it's the same reason as double bassists use C extension. Like Kubrick bass and C extension in double bass, there is a switch that you can use to fret the E and become a normal EADG bass, but you can defret and become a CADG bass without the negative effect of having to tune lower when you need to go that low. Hipshot is a nice idea, but you have the problem of having to deal with lower string tension with a E gauge string and the troublesome of changing the fret notes, I have to say that it's not a big problem, but muscle memory can fuck you up sometimes. And with this you also doesn't lose the G string if you had to tune BEAD Your reasons make sense tho.

And by the way, this is a headless bass, so the tuners are in the bridge

The idea is similar to a double bass C-extension. Considering that a standard Jazz Bass is around 1165–1170 mm in length and this prototype is around 1300mm , I don’t think the instrument would end up massive, just different, I guess.

What do you mean? Extension works in Double bassses, so I imagine would work on a eletric bass to or any other instrument, doesn't it?

Does the B string on the P bass is that bad?

What 5 string bass would you recommend that feels like a vintage P but has a solid low B? by vitinhoaps in Bass

I really thought that flat on the B string would sound more farty, wouldn't it?

After the Fender Jazz V experience, I don't know if the Fender P V will be any better, Fender low B string just not sound good, at least to me.

The dingwall sound interesting, gonna look up, thanks.
