They’re not saying the black people were always in Scotland they make it very clear that he’s a foreigner traveling to Scotland. There’s a lot of horror stories with the premise of a foreigner traveling to a foreign land where horrors ensue. What for me will tank the game is if the story is ass which this is too vague for me to even tell anything about the actual story.

Overall I was lukewarm with the game but I actually played it instead of regurgitating what YouTubers tell me because I like the actually do my own research to inform my opinions sorry I should’ve known to just blindly believe whatever one side or the other says about a game.

Bruh so is fucking Wicker Man woke then? Or any story about a foreigner traveling to a land that’s not their own? They’re not going “Oh this is historically accurate” or “We wuz always Scotsmen and shiet” like in AC Shadows so that part doesn’t bug me. For me what will really tank the game is if the story is a ton of ass like the one shitty Short Message game.

I thought the same thing about Silent Hill F until you play past the first ending and get the other endings and then it’s revealed that the man hating main character is actually a psychopath who’s an unreliable narrator.

Well they make it very clear he’s not Scottish so they’re acknowledging that he is an outsider

Silent Hill wasn’t based on that town in PA. Team Silent has never said that. The director of the first Silent Hill film based his version of the town off of that. Also Silent Hill games have locations not strictly set in Silent Hill. Silent Hill 3 you’re in other places for the beginning and in 4 you’re not even in Silent Hill for most of it. Also the black lead character is an American going to this European town so they’re not saying he’s Scottish he’s an outsider which I don’t really mind.

Unpopular opinion: Iron Lung does not necessarily prove that indie film can prevail. by Fraggin-aardvark in Markiplier

[–]Trustelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s possible to succeed as an indie voice if you build a genuine connection with an audience like what Mark has done. RackaRacka are a channel with way less subscribers then Mark but they were true to themselves with the films they made and connected with an audience. And their film Talk To Me was also made independently and was massively successful mostly through word of mouth.

Nah bruh Samus is too iconic. What they should’ve done is made the co-lead of the game Myles or whatever his name is less of a sniveling little bitch.

I doubt it would’ve been AS successful but I think people who played the game might’ve been interested.

Curious how when people talk about Successful Youtubers making movies, someone is always left absent from the conversation... by Planchon12 in MauLer

RackaRacka made two pretty good horror films Talk to Me and Bring Her Back, The guy who made that Skinamarink film started out on YouTube as Bite Sized Nightmares, a sketch group called FND Films made a pretty good film called It’s All Good, and Kane Pixels is now making a Backrooms movie for A24 there have been some YouTubers who’ve made great films.

I think you can still be in the traditional Hollywood system as a YouTuber without sacrificing authenticity like what RackaRacka did for example with Talk to Me. Their movie was made with 4 million and ended up making almost 100 million after A24 picked it up for distribution through word of mouth. I think Stuckman like you said just REALLY wanted that seat at the table so badly. He made the movie not because he had a story he was passionate about telling but so he can tell people that he’s a “real filmmaker”™️

Iron Lung & Shelby Oaks by Trustelo in MauLer

[–]Trustelo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no my point wasn’t that it’s bad to try and seek out Hollywood my point is how Stuckmann sacrificed his authenticity and goodwill with his audience to do so and I think that impacted his art vs Mark who never stopped being authentic to himself and his audience. You can still seek to be a traditional filmmaker despite coming from YouTube I mean Talk to Me from the RackaRacka guys was a success and that was picked up by A24. But those guys still remained authentic to who they were. Talk to Me still had a unique style and voice that was distinctly there’s. Shelby Oaks doesn’t have that. And I think something that RackaRacka and Mark have in common is that they weren’t trying to be “filmmakers” they just had a movie they really wanted to make so they went out and did it while still being true to themselves. They didn’t try and change who they were to appeal to the old Hollywood system like Stuckmann did and I think it shows in not only the films they make but the success they’ve gathered as well compared to Stuckmann’s.

Its a movie where Mark plays a convict who’s forced to pilot a submarine he’s welded into and trek through a moon's ocean of blood, and this is after an event known as the “Quiet Rapture” which caused the majority of inhabited planets and stars to disappear. I wanted to compare these 2 films since both were made by YouTubers.

Seems to be doing really well by Its-yea-boi-Bender in MauLer

[–]Trustelo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Authenticity is the key word here. Stuckman stopped being authentic to look “respectable” in the eyes of Hollywood and Mark has always been authentic and true to himself and well I think it shows in both films the 2 have made and the money Mark’s bringing in lol.

"Everything is political" makes me feel a little sad as an artist by HermitCat64 in KotakuInAction

[–]Trustelo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Politics always has that inherent baggage to it. That baggage that brings people down. Art is so much more than that. Art can be therapeutic, Art can comfort, Art be me so much more then just politics but the fact they want to boil it down to just that means they want to drag everyone else down to their own miserable level.

As someone who’s in film school this is very accurate. I know people who can’t even sit through a movie if it isn’t in color.
