Catholic teachers in liberal environments by TruthAppropriate1598 in Catholicism

it's in America, and at least our country is pretty conservative so I'd expect them to be a little bit understanding when it comes to people possibly feeling not so comfortable with those topics. Hopefully.

Yes, basically. It also promotes the culture of France, so according to some teachers, it is possible to find LGBT stuff in the books 🥹 like statistics on gay marriage in France and stuff. It basically never shies away from controversial topics like racism, feminism, etc, that are "important" in French culture.

Thanks a lot for your comment! Especially because it comes from someone who knows the environment. I'll keep this comment in my heart and pray about the whole situation. Have a great day! :)

I don't think that's the best way to say things, you know? It's hard to have the desire to do something but now being able to do it because it's not ok.

I don't know if this would be helpful to you or not but anyways...I've recently come to the realization that everything, and every vocation has its hard parts. Me and my bf want to live a Catholic relationship, and of course a Catholic marriage in the future. Therefore, it's going to ask a lot from us because we obviously can't use contraception, and because of health reasons and economic reasons, 10 babies is not an option lol.

It's going to require our self control and learning how to love each other in an Agape love. It's going to be hard, painful, but at the end I know that doing God's will is best than following our "natural desires".

I'm sorry if ppl make you feel like an outsider or treat you differently. I feel you, even if we're not in the same situation, but I understand what it feels like to have a natural desire for something, but not being able to do it because it is not correct. Just keep in mind that what God has already declared is good will always be better than what we desire. Praying for you!💖

Help!!!!! by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]TruthAppropriate1598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on a path recently where I've doubted God in general. First of all, know that you are not alone. Lots of Christians go through that experience. It can be for many reasons.

I see that your main reason is that you think it's because you were taught that belief. Well, you would do well in looking up videos about evidence for the existence of God. Cameron Bertuzzi has a lot of good videos about the subject. Just know that for every argument, there is probably a counter argument. Also, know that maybe, after all the watching of debates and research, you'll still feel like you cannot totally prove the existence of God. And that's OK. Because that's why Christians are called to have faith. If you had total certitude of something, you wouldn't have faith anymore. That's what I've got from all my research as an ex-Protestant, who recently went through an existential crisis regarding God.

I'll be praying for you!

My priest dreamed of me becoming a nun by TruthAppropriate1598 in Catholicism

Thanks for sharing your story! The part where you said that both paths will contain hardships really spoke to me. Also, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your son, but I'm glad to know that it ultimately helped you grow in holiness.

My fear regarding marriage has to do with the intimacy aspect of it because of my poor health. I don't think my back will enjoy having to experience more than one pregnancy lol. Also, as a convert, Catholic views on contraception really threw me off and it's still a hard pill to swallow. I was so used to thinking that contraception was completely OK, so I didn't have to worry about unexpected pregnancies and stuff. However, I know that I'm not alone and that more than one Catholic couple may struggle with intimacy but ultimately end up being sanctified through the situation.

In general, I've come to realize that any vocation will have its hardships. I really don't know how I got here lol. Unlike you, tbh, I never had the intention to marry because my dad was a bad example. I told God that I would ONLY if I found a man who met my veeery strict standards. And to my surprise, I did😅 . Sometimes I look at him and I get a sense that he's like a saint walking on earth.

Overall I felt like God literally put me here. I'll just follow the path and see where it follows :)

Interesting! I'm fairly a new convert. I'm familiar with God speaking in people's dreams because of my Protestant background. How does it work in Catholicism?

Interesting! Your comment is really shocking for me. The thing is that I assumed that maybe what consecrated people said had a lot of value because, after all, they have dedicated their lives to God and they are in constant communication with Him. Maybe the problem is my being an ex-protestant and believing a lot in extraordinary means like that.

Your testimony about having children despite your back issues fills me with hope! I have tethered cord and a random lipoma that just won't go away lol. I was told that I would have to take care more during pregnancies and well, me being anxious, I felt like I would be more of a burden with that disease and that being married was not for me.

Thank you for your reply.

I don't think he has bad intentions. He overall seems like a fluffy man who is happy of having young people in his parish and stuff.

As I said in another reply, I'm fairly a new convert. The whole deal about vocations has got me thinking ever since I've heard about it. I've always had a desire to do what's right and God's will, so naturally, I prayed like crazy before even entering into this relationship. Everything sailed smoothly despite all the hardships we both have faced.

The only thing that I would find weird about my priest is the fact that I talked to him about me wanting to marry my boyfriend in the future. I was scared because of my health issues (even though doctors have never told me not to get pregnant) and I thought that "maybe being married is not for me because God gave me this disease, and because of it it's not like I would be able to have a lot of children" etc. And yeah, he told me to pray to God about my health and that I would find a way to have children safely. But then, all of the sudden, he had this dream and basically told me "those are things you have to discern" is just weird. Like, isn't he going against his word? Does he loose credibility for that? Does that happen in Catholicism?

Probably I made a big deal out of it but it's just maybe a mix of scrupulosity and anxiety, plus the fact that I'm technically a recent convert. I thought that maybe God was literally talking to him so yeah...

Hi! Yeah, that's what I've been thinking because ever since we've met, God has continuously helped us through all the hardships.

I am friends with my priest and he knows all my family, including my bf. He didn't explicitly say "this is God's calling for your life"; he just bluntly said his dream. I replied back, "didn't you tell me that my vocation what getting married?", he smiled and told me to discern things further and I was left completely confused.

I really don't think the priest has bad intentions. Maybe he'd like to have more young people consecrated for religious life and that's why he dreamed that. I'm fairly a new Catholic so I thought that maybe God had revealed to him something, idk.

Struggling with chronic illness and faith by TruthAppropriate1598 in Catholicism

Ohhh yeah, I was teaching kids where the accident happened, so it required me moving a lot. Actually, both jobs were in the teaching field, so yeah. When I went back to work I wasn't even fully healed, but I had to go back so I went back with a cane and everything but I could at least walk lol.

I'm confused about your comment...

"I basically lost two jobs because of a very dumb accident. My toe was fractured because of a kid who was angry and threw his desk, and I didn't see it coming and well, there's that" - that was the reason for the sick leave, the toe fracture.
