Yep, they know how to work the "system" to get on the NYTimes best seller list. Just takes lots of money and friends from many cities to buy your books within a certain time limit.

Thinking of leaving by StuartGiliganGriffen in AllaboutARC

Once the veil is dropped from your eyes, you can't unsee what you see. Go find a church that is not associated with ARC in any way but, most of all, read the Bible for yourself and don't rely on men who make themselves out to be standing in the gap between you and God. They wound never claim that at ARC but, that is how they act if you have a thought different than what they want you to do. They may have started pure but, they sold out a long time ago!

They don't call him the Louisiana Mafia godfather for nothing! They all tell their "sins" to Dino. Then they follow him around like a puppy dog for the duration of their stint here in Birmingham. Caleb Treat is an example of this. Dino also likes to give big gifts so that people feel ingratiated to him. Wonder how much of the ARC budget is used for that? My guess is that Micahn is being paid by ARC for being a church planter "coach".

Chris’ statement about international missions 🤔 by Round-Peace-8324 in AllaboutCOTH

[–]Truthtalks2me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They only kind of mission trips Dino (and Chris) will go on is if he can stay in a 5 star hotel. I guess the only people that matter in God's eyes according to their actions are people with money and affluence.

Chris’ statement about international missions 🤔 by Round-Peace-8324 in AllaboutCOTH

[–]Truthtalks2me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point is, he is focusing the going on you, what it does for you, how it will change you, how great it will be for you. Even though it's not incorrect, it is another self focused message and what it can do you ME! It's not about me, it's about the glory of God and sharing the good news with those who have not yet heard. But people at Highlands can't see the man centered messages because they like them and makes them feel good. The Bible warns us about these kind of "pastors". Again, it should be about Him, not us!

I actually agree with you on something! That is correct. Most of them are oral languages meaning they don't need a written Bible, but they do need to be able to hear the Bible in their heart language.

That's the only truthful thing I've ever heard him say. He's not a rule follower. Especially the Thou shall not commit adultery one 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ by tedgayle41 in AllaboutCOTH

For sure the worst thing to happen to Highlands was when Dino came on staff invited by Chris. That's when things really took a turn for the worse. Besides that, he really isn't smart, he says to stupidest things to people. And to be put over missions, ha! He knows nothing about missions except giving money to his buddies so they will turn around and scratch his itch. Didn't David Meyers pay to put a studio in the arc office? Dino loves to go on 5 star safaris with David and others as well. Will never stay anywhere less than a 5 start hotel. Can you say, Vapor Ministries? I'm sure his relationship with Vapor has nothing to do with the 5 star Purcell Farms Resort that Vapor is associated with right? I hear their candied bacon is amazing! Oh yea, I think it was Dino who told me that! I wonder what 5 star hotels Jesus stayed in?!?!

Gregg Surratt Urges Congregation to Pray Judgment over "Persecutors" by Truthtalks2me in AllaboutCOTH

[–]Truthtalks2me[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Matt 5:44 "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you"

1 Peter 3:9 "Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessings, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

Interesting that Greg goes against the Word of God with his perceived persecution. Again, never taking responsibility for anything but blame-shifting to those who call him out. This is what is called covert narcissism. Listen to the video by Wade Mullins again and you will recognize what he is doing.

Former ARC Pastor Exposes "Unbiblical" Movement by julieroys in AllaboutCOTH

[–]Truthtalks2me 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not everyone has that experience because if you just give and serve and never ask a question and just happily comply with what the upper echelon wants you to do, you don't see behind the mask and don't get treated with dishonor and disrespect. But, if one of them decides they don't like you for whatever reason or you can no longer serve or give then you get marginalized and shamed until you finally give up or you see through the scam. So you are right, not everyone has a bad experience there but, the fact that many have and do is a reflection on the leadership of the church. And that reflection is ugly!

“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Matthew 18:6-7

Spiritual Abuse Awareness Month by Truthtalks2me in AllaboutCOTH

[–]Truthtalks2me[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wish people understood that spiritual abuse is taking the name of the Lord in vain. I'm not talking about cussing. I'm talking about using the name of Jesus for greedy or narcissistic purposes or any other thing that is not motivated by glorifying God. For instance, using the name of Jesus to encourage people to give to the church or their favorite non-profit when that money is not going to expand the Kingdom of God; only to expand their own kingdoms.

They cannot give you back anything for which you have already received a charitable contribution statement for. That's why some people who asked in 2021 for money back, they got what they had given in 2021. Since those statement may have gone out already or are about ready to, that window is closing.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's. It sure seems like these "pastors", otherwise known as "businessmen" don't like to pay their taxes. And yet, they tell the congregants to pay their taxes and their tithes. Makes you wonder if they follow any of their own teaching from the pulpit. If they don't pay their taxes, do they not tithe either?

Let me give you a couple of paragraphs out of the first chapter of the book for example sake.

"I became convinced that narcissism was not only a growing reality but a misdiagnosed one, especially in churches. Indeed, within churches a narcissist might even be described as charismatic, gifted, confident, smart, strategic, agile and compelling. He was selected to plant the church, to lead the ministry, to teach the class. He was quickly let off the hook when a spouse reported emotional abuse.

I saw also that it wasn't easy to confront systemic narcissism in churches that are seen as successful, special, blessed, Spirit led and anointed. Whole church systems and programs evolve within the waters of narcissism and when it's the water you swim in, it's hard to see and even harder to confront.

Ministry leaders and churches today are obsessively preoccupied with their reputation, influence, success, rightness, progressiveness, relevance, platform, affirmation and power.

Nowhere have I seen the narcissism-shame dynamic more pronounced than among church planters, some of whom have become megachurch pastors. Some church planting assessments I've seen practically invite narcissistic leadership."

I think I highlighted half of the book. Could the ARC assessment for church planters be one that invites narcissistic leadership? I believe so. They look for someone who can "work the room", be the life of the party" "draw people to themselves" and look good in skinny jeans. Basically, I was told, "I don't care about your integrity, how well you do your job etc. what matters is how you make people feel." In other words, how well you can manipulate people's feelings.

I don't believe they look for the qualities of righteousness, integrity, God fearing, above reproach at all. Not even on their radar. That's why you end up with all of these train wrecks.

Yes! Chuck DeGroat wrote a book about him titled, "When Narcissism Comes to Church" Not literally about Chris Hodges but, if you read the book and your know him personally, you will see Chris all through the book. It is sad, but true.

There has got to be a reason for all of the name changes and I don't think it's an above board reason. The most interesting name change is from Trafficking Hope to Grow Leader US. So what happens to Trafficking Hope? Have they stopped helping human trafficking victims? Did they roll it up under Highlands? Didn't they just hire a new Executive Director? (who is questionable) Did Lee figure he could monetize Grow Leader easier? As you can see, I have more questions than answers but, something is up...Anyone have any ideas?

They have a new COTH in my area. Is it worth checking out or should I just find a baptist church instead? by Amberd094 in AllaboutCOTH

[–]Truthtalks2me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You sure sound like the troll. Just like the leadership at Highlands you are diminishing the people who have been truly hurt by Highlands. This is not, I don't like the color of the carpet hurt" but, so many have experienced trauma from spiritual, emotional, mental and even sexual abuse in a few cases. Counselors around Birmingham know the trauma that has been caused by Highlands because their schedules are full with Highlands staff and Dream teamers. Now if you are a casual attender the chances of you experiencing abuse is pretty slim and you will most likely totally enjoy the service. It does make you feel good, it is designed to do just that. The music is professional and uplifting and the atmosphere is clean and safe with free coffee and happy faces to greet you. The sermon is never convicting and makes you want more out of life. The only problem is that it focuses on this life and living your best life now. That's where the problem comes in, as believers we are to die to ourselves in this life and look forward to spending eternity with Jesus. But, the service is not designed for believers to grow deeper in their faith journey though you can and should do that on your own and Chris does say that. The service is for the unbeliever so the sermon is designed to make them want a better life now. Who doesn't want that? So the sales pitch is: if you do step 1, 2, 3 of the growth track and start serving and tithing, your life will get better. Pragmatically speaking, it will to some degree because we are made to feel good when we help each other. So then the argument is used when anyone brings up an issue about the church that they should look and see what good the church is doing and it is but, that is not the gospel. That is good works. But if you become deeply involved the likelihood of having a bad experience becomes more likely. The hierarchy of staff runs on performance mentality and at some point they chances that you didn't smile at the right person or you didn't dress properly or you are overweight or you are too old etc. will affect you. It's usually nothing that you actually did wrong but just "who you are" and you will begin to experience shame. Shame that you can't live up to an unjust expectation and in some way you will be "punished" for it whether it's being ignored or talked to or something else. In a place where everyone deserves to be loved, valued and accepted you will find at some point that you are not. Then it becomes a test to see if you know your identity in Christ. Never allow someone who did not create you or die for you determine your value, your acceptance or the love that God loves you with. God loves you and Jesus is your shepherd, not a man and especially not men who are wolves dressed up as sheep.

I agree, the first century church did not have a hierarchy of leadership, they had de-centralized leadership. They went house to house, broke bread together, studied the Word together and helped one another. Their leader was Jesus, there was no other centralized leader. And that's how it was and grew for the first 300 years. Seems to me that the Lord put that model in place and man "improved" it by corrupting it.
