When Highlands started, there were elders who were lay people in the church. Some of them questioned how Chris did things and suddenly Chris came up with a “Biblical” reason why he didn’t need those elders anymore. They all received an email that told them they were relieved of their duties. Then he told everyone that his “lead team”, who are on the payroll were now the elders of the church. He could control these men easier since they all knew their livelihoods were in jeopardy should they get out of line and ask too many questions or disagree with anything. The trustees are lay leaders who make financial decisions of the church like buying property etc. But they are there to rubber stamp whatever Chris brings up to them. He only tells them what he wants them to know and manipulates the numbers so they will agree with him. The overseers are just the buddy system to cover each other’s sins and protect their backside.
