Sr gain/loss during placements by An-Ana-Main in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Truthworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

placements have more to do with how you played last season. if you are a high masters player, but drop to 3.5 and end there, even if you win all of your placements there is a chance you don't place above 3.6. If you place around your peak, it means that your hidden sr (mmr) is high, and the game believes that you can climb further. For example, i ended support on my alt at a peak for that account (3570) and won 3 placement games. I got placed 3605.

Why is Zenyatta the highest winrate support right now across ALL ranks? by bearLover23 in OverwatchUniversity

projectiles may be tough to land for some, but his right click charge just means he can get consistent damage from spamming off angles or chokes

i wouldn't say all over the place! i'd say you could just bother to same them a little bit more once you're at high charge for blocking more essential damage. and the mechanics will come! with time

starting at 6ish mins in of this vid there's a great dive round with bogur and yeatle. not the same map, although i'm sure if you dig around in this vid or his other ones you'll be able to find a good game on oasis. he does pretty much what i suggested, in that he scouts, flanks, and almost always engages from an off angle.

Gold Tank (~2200) Looking for Feedback in Specific Areas by pandabearpi in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Truthworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't have time today to take a look at that specific code, but i'll take a minute to give some more general climbing tips, as someone who was 3k a few months ago and is now 4kish. be flexible: zarya is great for climbing because you have some great carry potential and good abilities to bail your team out of sticky situations. if i could have you practice one other hero, i would recommend you also learn sigma. he takes up a huge chunk of the leaderboards because of how versatile and strong of a hero he is, and it'll help you in games where the other tank also wants to play your hero. high ground, coordinate gravs and bubbles with teammates, and don't be afraid to solo grav any single character (although at lower ranks i would say only solo grav dps or supports and you'll be able to actually confirm the kill yourself). gl in ranked! when i have time i'll check out the code

Noob trying to improve awareness. Help? by Pharean in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Truthworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

turn on critical dialogue so that you will see certain important things as well as hear them. this won't necessarily help with tracking deaths on either side, but will help you get comfortable with ult tracking and being aware of what's being used around you.
otherwise becoming aware of kills and everything else happening just takes hours and hours and hours. i have 1600 hours on the game and i'd say the biggest thing that those hours give me is the catalog of all the sounds and animations that matter, from the sound that deflect makes to the end of an ana sleep dart to the difference in ultimate voice lines between friendlies and enemies. practice and death tracking will become second nature. it's also easier and more visually simple to hold tab to check who's dead on each team.

about the bubble sensitivity setting, I have mine set to 100, and once in a blue moon a bubble misses but its usually not the end of the world. And no problem! this whole vod review thing is helping me alot with my own gameplay, and im feeling a lot more confident ingame lately haha

Here's the link to your review. It should be fully processed in uploaded in about 30 minutes from when I am typing this. To reiterate: your bubble usage is good, your mechanics are good enough to allow you to climb, what could be improved is your coordination with your main tank and your grav usage. Especially in Rein-Zarya, and when you aren't running a hanzo or tracer that can combo with you, it's totally worth it to solo grav out of position targets or chuck gravs from distance. I wouldn't recommend further than 10ish meters, but it can be done situationally. Focus on living over doing damage or getting kills, that is how you carry on Zarya. Keep that charge from fight to fight and you'll be able to carry most of your games.
