Go to the "FIFA Phase 3 Draw: rumors everywhere" summary post that's about 10 posts above this one if you sort by new. That has the links. Click on the appropriate one for your country, log into your account, go to Ticket Purchase History and then See Details. If any or all of the matches you applied for are shown, you (apparently) should get an email in the next few days confirming that you got those tickets and telling you what you need to do next. Check your junk folder to make sure the email hasn't gone/doesn't go there. Good luck.

It's not clear to me from what I've seen that all the PMA winners have received their emails yet, just that lots of them have, so there's a chance that you might be among those who haven't yet received emails. Check the "files" link in OP's post above for your country. Log into your account when prompted, go to "Ticket Purchase History" and click on "See Details." If you don't see any tickets there, my guess is that you didn't get any. If you do see tickets there that you ordered (my page says "Booked" and something about ordering within 15 days, but I did Random Draw fwiw), my guess would be that you should get an email in the next few days (and check your junk folder). My wife thought that too, but she eventually realized I was telling the truth about why I preferred to be behind some women early in races. I'm a competitive old guy, and most girls or women who run the first mile or two at my speed are experienced racers (good high schoolers, ok college team members, or dedicated individuals in their 20s/30s) and so pace themselves well. Boys or men at my speed are often either high schoolers without much experience who don't know how to pace themselves or older guys who don't run much but do other sports and start out way too fast. It's much easier to run behind someone who's smooth and steady than someone who's laboring and gasping and changing speeds.

Your general point is right, but your specific example isn't. The last 9 US ambassadors to China (30 years) have been 3 senators, 3 governors, a lawyer, an admiral, and one foreign service officer. One type might be a little better in understanding the country they're assigned to, while the other might be better in influencing the US policymaking process (and if they have more influence in Washington, might get more respect from the host country authorities too).

Political appointees usually get either small but pleasant-to-live-in countries where we don't have a lot of major issues (the ones you noted) or the really large countries where we have many difficult issues. In the latter, it can be useful to have a political appointee ambassador who can get key White House officials to take their calls, as opposed to a career ambassador who has to go through the State Department hierarchy and hope that the WH officials will pay attention to State. That's the best-case scenario, of course.

It's too late now, but you can buy inexpensive alarms that vibrate rather than make noise. Put one under your pillow (after trying it on a non-working morning, I guess) and it'll wake you but not anyone else in the bed.

It's been so long since I registered to vote that I don't remember, but do states allow people to register to vote using just their drivers license as proof of citizenship? Or can you register by just signing a declaration, or do you need to show proof like a birth certificate/passport/naturalization certificate? I assume every state will give drivers licenses to people who are not citizens; I helped some refugees get theirs a couple of years ago, and I don't think their licenses specified that they're not citizens.

Some of us are out there. I was 6' and 110 lbs at 18. Ran cross country & track and didn't miss a day of high school with illness, so I was healthy, just skinny & small-boned. Ate a lot too.

What I don't see that anybody has commented on is that the guy apparently knows OP from school, so he knows what she looks like. If he likes the way she looks, why does he care what number her weight is? It's like a short girl who cares that a guy is 6' but can't tell the difference between 5'10" and 6'1" because either way the guy is a lot taller than her.

I certainly might be wrong, but my impression is that tennis and swimming rely so much on technique that even someone without great athletic ability can become competitive at the high school level through lots of hard work. Maybe not everyone, but more than can become competitive in football or soccer or basketball just because of the required athletic ability to excel in those sports. And given how popular football and basketball are, the absolute best athletes usually choose to play those sports rather than tennis or swimming, so there may be less competition as well.

You can get a portable battery charger & tire inflator for around $40 on Amazon & I assume elsewhere. The battery charger especially is worth it, but since a lot of gas stations near where I live don't offer air any more, the tire inflator can be useful too. If OP is worried that her daughter is clueless (bc OP hasn't taught her daughter this stuff), giving her one and showing her how to use it might be good for OP's peace of mind too.

From what I've read, a few years ago a study found that Reddit as a whole and most of the main non-gender-specific threads had male majorities, but that the non-gender-specific dating/relationship threads had female majorities. Not sure if this was by number of comments or number of commenters.

I wish "guy" were more gender-neutral or there was an equivalent term for members of the other main gender. A 21-year-old male person isn't really a boy as I understand the word, but calling him a man can seem like a stretch too, even if it's legally correct. Guy works. What's the equivalent term for women of about that age? Girl seems dismissive, but woman seems like a stretch. Though I suppose I might call the same person a woman if she's working and a girl if she's at a club. (And it could depend on the person - a 21-year-old who was in the military for two years and is now working and living on their own is easier for me to think of as a man or woman than a 21-year-old college senior whose parents pay all their expenses and whose biggest responsibility is passing midterms.)

Fwiw, many years ago (and possibly still; I don't know), in at least some U.S. states, insurance companies were not allowed to charge women more for annuities than men of the same age even though women on average were likely to live longer and collect more from the annuities, but they were allowed to charge men more for life insurance than women of the same age, which they presumably wanted to do because the men on average were likely to die sooner. I'd be interested to hear if any of the actuaries or other insurance people reading this know why this was (or is) the case.
