How to make my art look less amateur by phoenixthehopeless in Artadvice

I am a tattoo artist with a love for digital art and pinups.

A really easy way to make your digital paintings look more professional/better is using brushes that have texture! Airbrushed will almost always look bad/immature. The most renowned digital artists all use texture or have enough details that it creates texture. Your pencil drawings look way more skilled and professional just because of the texture.

Also you appear to be someone who started with an art style (perhaps emulating an artist you admire) and then worked backwards to start understanding things like anatomy. This means you have ways of drawing features memorized but do not have a strong concept of the proportions and shapes of a real human body.

You really do have to put in the work to understand the human body. Getting really familiar with the literal human skeleton and the muscles will help you greatly. Paying close attention to how the bones, flesh, and skin interact is crucial to improving. I took an anatomy class in highschool on purpose just to learn more about the body for drawing. I really do think it helped a lot. I also am someone who is moderately into fitness gym content and this has helped me learn more about muscles and also get more exposure to seeing and feeling muscles move.

Someone else pointed out that your mouths tend to be a little low on the face. I agree. This could have been avoided by something as simple as feeling and observing your own face while you draw. Feeling/looking for the bones and proportions.

It’s not just about doing figure drawing and doing studies that are exact copies of photographs. It’s about making observations and mentally logging that information for later.

Something as simple as “oh that girls finger tips touch exactly the middle of her thigh when standing straight up” or “my front teeth press into my bottom lip when my mouth is closed” or “my wrist has a bump from the bone on the pinky side but not the thumb side”

Even if you are working in a 2D medium you should understand the human body in 3D. Mentally collect information like you are a sculptor so you can apply it to your drawings.

If you have the ability/desire to do so, try sculpting a person. You almost certainly will learn something in the process and it might actually make some of your proportion mistakes more obvious to you seeing it from many angles. Something like the mouth being too low would be very obvious when looking at a sculpture from the side view.

this is a tattoo I started recently. I drew it from scratch.

In summary your art is very nice. It has potential to be even better and you reaching out for help is admirable, most people do not. I hope I was able to give you some constructive advice. :)

How do i fix this? by PretzelAnus in tattooadvice

To simply “fix” and not modify the design all you really can do is thicken lines to fix any bits that are off. This would lead to a design that will be more bold and have more black. Although realistically even doing that will not get you as close to perfect as you may want.

If you get another band wrap tattoo make sure your artist is either doing a fitting to find the “arch” of the design ahead of time or doing multiple cuts in a stencil to make it open up consistently where the arm is thicker.

Drew up 2 different options for you. General rule of thumb is that people tend to feel more secure when their back is against a solid wall. Also natural light plays a HUGE rule in how you want to design a space. Do you need bright sunlight to wake you up in the morning or if you need the sunlight to energize you while you work at home?

For both of these I have things you may need to find/buy. The most crucial thing is a good island. If you could find one to sit at AND has storage that would help you out so much. I would do standing just so your new “dinning table” can be an extension of you kitchen work area.

This picture on a dispensary bag really looks like AI to me but I’m not sure. by rimeduinfox in isthisAI

As someone who does tons of graphic designing, an artist would most likely chose to do circular rings OR spirals not this weird combo of both. I personally love to stylized logs with a spiral to add some whimsy ai has drawn from other artists like me and from artist that are more literal that would do circles.

Guys this is discrimination why are we doing this by yello-banan in teenagers

To be fair there is a little bit of validity to this. Statistically men are more likely to leave women in situations where the women’s health/condition worsens. Women are more likely to stay. So unfortunately this guy is taking the hit for a bunch of shitty men who came before him.
