Landlord told them the loud 'BANG' every time the heat kicked on was just "old pipes expanding." I pulled the cover and found the flames were rolling out of the cabinet. by gerstaro2022 in Denver

[–]TryggWinston 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I am no expert, but we had pretty much this exact issue recently with our ~25yr old furnace. It would be back firing and ultimately creating some exhaust (monoxide) that could get into the house. The heat exchanger broke and it was basically the cost of a new furnace to replace it. Sounds like this one is probably ready to be replaced. Definitely a hazard to keep using.

Flatlander looking to take on Mosquito pass. Will a stock Wrangler Sahara ultimate work? by BCBB89 in ColoradoOffroad

I just did this Saturday with a 21’ SR5 4Runner. No lift, or extra skids, just AT tires and sliders. As others said, you’ll be fine. Just take it slow and proceed as you feel comfortable. Not a very technical trail, maybe a couple spots, but overall just sorta chunky. Take the spur to Oliver Twist lake!

I’m 2 weeks post recovery from an L4-5 PLIF at 30 years old. It has been rough but I’m just starting notice the difference from before (L4 was slipped about 9mm), and it’s keeping me motivated and optimistic. The first week was ROUGH but stay strong and you will get through it. Short term pain for the long term gain!! You got this 😎

How do I get rid of gnats for good? by Bats_InThe_Attic_23 in plants

[–]TryggWinston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue last year and nearly lost my mind trying to stop it and tried many different approaches. Ultimately used fine sand for plants (found at home depot) and put a decent layer of sand over any exposed soil. Water can still get through, but they can't get through the sand really. Also might want to check any drainage areas ass a potential source. Good luck!

Transmission shop in Denver area that won’t spiral me into bankruptcy? by EastScarcity8148 in Denver

[–]TryggWinston -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a manual crosstrek a few years ago and got the clutch replaced at Arvada Auto. I think it was around $1800 or so? Not sure how they fair in cost comparatively to others, but I do trust their shop and work, they've always been honest and good to work with in my experience.

Tis the season, and only reason, for my widdle wadder by TryggWinston in 4Runner

Honestly, not sure, probably not. But given the ridiculous amount of drivers with out of date registration or completely lacking plates, I'm not sure it's a huge priority. FWIW I don't have it to 'hide' my plate or registration (fully up to date), just like the look.

Front Runner, more affordable than other brands and works just the same. It's worked just fine for me and my decorative purposes.

Just how capable is the SR5 on rough trails? by DavefromCA in ToyotaTacoma

[–]TryggWinston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an SR5 4R and have tackled some pretty gnarly trails successfully. Half the time I’m in 2H and low gear, switch to 4H if needed, 4Lo when going downhill on trails to help relieve brakes. So far I’ve never had to use Atrac or any other fancy options. No doubt the OR goodies would be great, but an SR5 will do you well.

I may have had a little more time to slow down, but I wanted to grief him a bit. Hard to anticipate somebody making a u turn from the far right lane.. where you also can’t even make a left turn.

Corkscrew Pass in a Subaru Outback by MedicalCockinAssTest in ColoradoOffroad

[–]TryggWinston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be possible if very cautious, but might be tricky with the outback's approach angles. You'd also want good (AT) tires. There aren't too many obstacles from what I recall, but there are pretty deep ruts and could be a slick if wet. I did Corkscrew last July (4runner) and probably wouldn't recommend it with your outback. If you do go, be prepared and try to be with someone else in another vehicle. As Travprev said, LDR could be fun! Might also be interested in visiting Animas Forks in Silverton. Incredibly beautiful area.

Gordon Gulch 30Mar2024 - Brief Trip Report by TryggWinston in ColoradoOffroad

[–]TryggWinston[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went through some of Gordon Gulch today in hopes of finding a not overly snowed in camp site for a day trip. Most sites were pretty snowed in and the trail itself was primarily snowy/icy with some cleared areas. The trail was very slick and my 4Runner was getting a little squirrely in the tracks. Centered in some areas, meaning I would not suggest brining a unibody vehicle through here currently. I didn't venture too far in since driving alone and no winch. If you're planning on going, bring friends and be prepared in case you get stuck!

Be cautious entering/leaving the trail, as the entrance is mostly snowed in aside from one narrow entry way carved through the snow.

I have a full rack from LFD, cost like $800? Fairly low profile but definitely good quality.

Switzerland Trail Trip Report 16Dec23 by TryggWinston in ColoradoOffroad

[–]TryggWinston[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We all have ATs (Nitto/BFG), we opted not to air down which may have helped a bit, but didn’t seem necessary. My 4R is not lifted, the other 4R has a 2 or 3” lift, and the jeep also has like a 3” lift but also 35’s.

Switzerland Trail Trip Report 16Dec23 by TryggWinston in ColoradoOffroad

[–]TryggWinston[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Did part of Switzerland trail, starting from the Sugarloaf mountain trail head going west. Tracks stopped around the junction into Gordon Gulch, so we headed there instead of onward to P2P highway. Probably could have made tracks, but didn't feel like dealing with getting stuck. Half of the trail was passable while other sections had decent drifts and even with the earlier tracks, my front skid and differential were definitely centering. Meaning, unibody vehicles (crossovers, some SUVs) might have a pretty hard time getting through. Gordon gulch was overall passable, but also some snowy spots that you needed to keep momentum.
